The role of the Recovery Practitioner is to care for patients following surgery, support the Band 6 and 7 in the day to day running of the Post-anaesthetic Recovery room and to deputise in their absence, when the need arises.

We undertake a variety of elective day case procedures in our 3 Theatres. Our surgical specialties include General Surgical, Head and Neck, Urology, Breast, Plastic and Eyes surgery. There will also be the opportunity for staff to work in other operating theatres across the Trust once competencies have been met for the post.

The Recovery Practitioner will be expected to recover patients following surgery, and provide a high standard of evidence based clinical care to ensure the comfort and safety of patients.

They will be expected to be a role model for other members of staff and contribute towards the training and development of others. They should be able to recognise their own limitations and seek advice and support from senior members of staff.

The post holder will participate in delivering a high standard of patient care and safety. He/she will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm to help create a suitable patient and an effective learning environment. This post will demand a commitment to providing flexible shift cover.

Adopt an open learning culture from patient experience and action plan improvements as necessary

To undertake any expanded roles deemed necessary for the role following the Trust policy “Expansion of Professional Practice for Registered Healthcare Professionals”.

**Communication**:
Recognise and maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients and their records.

Maintain accurate documentation of any clinical notes or IT systems used in theatre.

Ensure clarity in communicating with patients, relatives and carers as well as other team members. Answer questions within the sphere of one’s own knowledge.

Answer the telephone on a clear, friendly, helpful and professional manner. Take any messages accurately and refer to a registered nurse/midwife as necessary.

Demonstrate a caring approach to patients/clients, their families and visitors and to have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

To attend and participate in departmental meetings, helping to implement change as required.

**Leadership**:
Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families and carers.

Responsible for assisting with the management and leadership of the theatre, maintaining an appropriate style that maintains good morale, a team approach to work and a culture which fosters innovation and change.

Sets high standards of nursing care for the theatre, including theatre cleanliness, etc., are maintained so that the patients experience is excellent.

Influence people and events through successful communication, negotiation and persuasion skills.

Constructively challenge practices as necessary, which impact on patients care and/or staff wellbeing.
