We are currently recruiting for a **Deputy Head of Engineering and Maintenance** within a leading public organisation in **Sheffield**. These are key role within the University and will be on an ongoing temporary contract.

The postholder be responsible for supporting and the implementation of structural, organizational and cultural change within the function to enhance performance and standards. Central to this change is the need to support Academic Faculties with their teaching and research requirements. You will also have deputized responsibility for leading on a range of highly specialized and business critical activities crucial to the success of the University. You will also need to provide the executive team as well as key stakeholders across the University with the assurance and confidence required for these high risk, high impact areas.

Duties will include:

- Support the leadership team, reviewing and re-alignment of the Engineering and Maintenance function, ensuring the function delivers:

- High quality service.
- Efficient services.
- Services aligned to business needs.
- Services that are appropriately sourced to ensure the above (maintaining a balance between in-house provision and external expertise where there is a clear business case).
- Services that engender a high sense of confidence and assurance at all levels of the University.
- Lead the University’s engineering and building infrastructure, and maintenance services, in accordance with the University strategies. This includes:

- Delivery of high quality planned preventative and reactive maintenance services that ensure business continuity.
- Deliver an effective replacement of equipment programme.
- Regularly review and formally appraise the University of its statutory compliance in key risk areas.
- Provide institutional expertise for compliance within the Estate relating to the management of; control of Legionella; electricity at work; pressure vessel systems; gas safety; COSHH within the Estates Department; LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998); PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998), the maintenance and assurance of approved codes of practice, Working at Height Regulations 2005.
- Ensure the delivery of high quality, responsive and efficient ‘Hard FM’ services within the University.
- Support Function Leadership:

- Ensure the highest standards of performance across the Engineering and Maintenance function, evidenced through KPI’s
- Recruit, develop, lead and motivate the team of Engineering and Maintenance staff and ensure consistent optimum performance of their duties.
- Resource Management:

- Contract management of a variety of specialist contractors and consultant to ensure that the University obtains high quality, high value Engineering and Maintenance expertise and services as required.
- Ensure the delivery of a balanced budget for Engineering and Maintenance on an annual basis.
- Links to other departments:

- Work with the Estates Development team to ensure that pre-enabling and infrastructure works are in place to enable the commissioning and practical completion of new buildings and building refurbishments within the Campus.
- Maintain the University’s Design Manual to be used as a standard for all future capital developments and refurbishments.
- Ensure new building developments are handed over by Estates Development that this is done to the required standards with the appropriate documentation. Ensure potential of defects liability is appropriately managed and is reported upon within the agreed period together with the Head of Estates Development.
