**Job description**:

- The Senior Air Operations Officer, Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) is responsible to DIO HQ for providing the guidance and policy to ensure the busiest and most complex UK Danger Area Training Estate is a Safe Place in which to Train. The incumbent will require an extensive military aviation background, ideally Aircrew, Air Traffic or Battlespace Management in order to provide to Senior Management a safe, effective, and efficient operation of all airspace and users associated with SPTA training areas. You will be the Line Manager of 5 Deputy Training Safety Officers (Air) who conduct the day-to-day operations on SPTA, and you will be expected to undertake their on-the-job Training package to understand their role, including obtaining a Radio Certificate of Competency (ROCC).

The job holder is responsible for ensuring optimum use of military airspace by military and non-military users in accordance with the Flexible Use of Airspace Directive through comprehensive Range Orders, Letters of Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding. Safety is paramount in ensuring deconfliction is provided to ensure that rotary, fixed-wing aircraft, and other assets can operate safely in close proximity to other users, including Co-Ord UAS with live firing.
- The Post is extremely diverse and will require frequent liaison with external Agencies to ensure all DIO HQ, MAA and CAA regulations are being adhered to. Additionally, liaisons with the Users to ensure they can maximise their training opportunities and support new systems coming into service with a particular focus on UAS. You will be required to provide technical, training, aeronautical and operational advice on all Flight Safety matters both internally and externally.

**Person specification**:

- Leadership and Management of the Service Delivery This is an office-based role.
- Managing Flight Safety. developing and maintaining processes. legislation and policy and Flight safety. Lead on all range Stranding orders updates.
- Technical Advisor. Lead on all Battlespace Management for SPTA air space to ensure safe place in maintained.
- User interface. Interacting with the Air community face-to-face including the delivery of the annual Salisbury Plain Air User Group, attending any local area user group conferences and liaise with SO1/SO2 Air DTE. Delivery specific SPTA Air Ops Briefings and presentations to major Exercises.
- Extensive knowledge and working background in Military Air Operations.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Changing and Improving - Is innovative, able to make changes to existing procedures and contribute to new procedures necessary for the achievement of aviation safety.
- Delivering at Pace - Has the ability to multitask and remain ahead of a complex and rapidly changing scenario.
- Leading and Communicating - Can develop, deploy, and review risk-based estate asset management programmes to meet business and operational needs and legislative and MOD policy requirements.
- Responds to changing resource requirements and priorities, utilising resources effectively whilst considering efficiency in order to achieve best outcomes.
