An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gastroenterology team on a permanent basis at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. You will be a key member of the team, providing the necessary admin support to ensure we are able to deliver an outstanding service to children, young people and their families in various settings (out patients and inpatients).

You will be enthusiastic, caring, reliable and highly motivated to deliver the excellence required within your role. You will have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of individuals including patients, families and professionals.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive administrative and secretarial service to the Gastroenterology and Nutrition nursing team.

The post holder will be overseeing the administration of homecare prescriptions for Gastroenterology patients.

The post holder will be expected to organise their workload with the Nurses to ensure an effective and efficient service is provided.

The post holder will prioritise and carry out their duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of the work. It is essential that the post holder should exercise initiative commensurate with the role and it is vital that confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Use of the Trust’s Patient Administration Systems (Careflow, Evolve, ICE, WEBV)

Arrange investigations, follow up appointments and ensure that all results are presented to nursing and medical staff and subsequently filed into patient’s medical records.

General office duties, including dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence, filing and photocopying etc.

Exercise independent judgement and initiative when problems arise by taking appropriate action to resolve the problems or referring to the appropriate person.

Implement any relevant Trust and Directorate policies on behalf of the Nurses and other team members.

Ensure the effective communication both within the Trust and between the hospital, GP’s and patients are maintained. Exercise judgement and initiative based in acquired experience and knowledge when problems arise by taking appropriate action to resolve the problems or referring to the appropriate person.

Ensure that all letters are typed and sent out in accordance with the locally agreed standards.

Liaise with all staff concerned with patient services, e.g. medical, nursing, medical records, theatre, anaesthetics and management etc.
