**Your role and responsibilities**

This is the perfect position for a Nurse looking to progress in all aspects of theatre-based nursing. This includes preparation of theatre suites and equipment, preparing patients for surgery, imaging patients, working in both a theatre circulating nurse and anaesthesia nurse role.

We are looking for a nurse looking with a desire to focus their knowledge on all aspects of surgical and anaesthesia nursing, protocols, and procedures to ensure the highest standard of care is provided.

Expected responsibilities include:

- Working alongside lead surgical nurse, clinicians, nurses, and PCAs to provide the highest quality of care for all surgical patients
- Set up for operations for that day
- Monitor and maintain anaesthesia
- Prep patients for surgery
- Maintenance of surgical kits - up to date kit lists, kit storage maintained, training for new team members
- Ensure precise, efficient and accurate patient handovers are carried out
- Accurate record keeping, especially with regard to kennel sheets, anaesthetic sheets and hospitalisation records
- Participate in team briefings and daily huddles to ensure effective and efficient communication
- Keep operations board up to date
- Set up for next day’s procedures including board and trays
- Completing maintenance checks on all surgical equipment and follow up on faulty/broken equipment
- Maintenance of hygiene in preps and surgical theatres - completing all daily/monthly infection control checklists
- Ensure all safety checklists are complete prior to anaesthesia - anaesthesia machine and patients
- Complete relevant CPD with support from the large bank of resources at Linnaeus and share learnings across the team
- Aid with the completion of clinical audits
- Liaising with the Lead Surgical Nurse regarding the progress of your patients throughout the day so that owners are kept appropriately updated
- Effectively communicate with clients to ensure smooth and efficient patient journey
- Attend regular nursing team meetings to review processes and protocols with a view to progressing and improving where possible
- Attend team briefings and daily huddles to ensure effective and efficient communication
- Work closely with the surgical lead and CNM’s to plan for the daily case load/patient flow and highlight any issues or concerns that may arise
- Involvement in aiding in research and development within the veterinary sector in multiple disciplines, as well as supported self-clinical progression
- Engage with practice projects such as: PSS, CFC, DFC, RFC, IIE Bronze etc.
- Work with the CNM’s and lead nurses to ensure all new nurses entering the business are supported to complete their induction.
- Participate in external CPD any training in-house, ensuring post-training feedback forms are completed/cascade of relevant information to appropriate team members.
- Encourage and participate in the use of VetSafe
- Comply with the Health and Safety policies for the different areas of the practice/ hospital.
- Adhere to confidentiality relating to all aspect of the business including complying with and assisting with all requirements relating to GDPR compliance.

Our surgical team consists of dedicated surgical nurses, rotating nurses, student veterinary nurses and patient care assistants who provide gold standard care to our surgical patients and work alongside all other departments within the hospital.

You will be exposed to a range of anaesthesia and analgesia techniques, such as CRIs, nerve blocks and epidurals. You will have access to state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and be trained in monitoring techniques including, blood pressure monitoring, capnography, ECG, and arterial blood gas analysis, to ensure our patients receive the highest level of care.

You will see a large and varied first opinion, referral and emergency caseload, working within an exceptional team and developing your career whilst being exposed to cases from all disciplines.
