An exciting as a result of additional investment has arisen for a new post of Safeguarding Practitioner as part of the Childrens Safeguarding Team within the Think Family Safeguarding Service. Initially, the role will be to deliver the health functions within Childrens First Partnership Hub working collaboratively with multi agency partners and co-located at Wigan Life Centre.

This is a 37.5-hour full-time permanent post with a requirement for health to ensure cover for the operational hours of the Children’s First Partnership Hub. This post will be a rotational post providing an exciting opportunity to work as part of our innovative and forward thinking Think Family Safeguarding Service. Therefore the successful applicant will, following a period of induction and preceptorship within the CFPH, work within the Safeguarding Children Team based at the RAEI. The proposed rotational pattern of this role will provide wider opportunities for professional development within the safeguarding arena.

The postholder will work as part of a dynamic multi-agency integrated team assessing safeguarding notifications and referrals regarding children received by the CFPH. The CFPH process includes searching and collating health information, with due regard to patient confidentiality; the CFPH Safeguarding Practitioner needs to interpret, analyse, and share the information necessary to safeguard and/or promote the welfare of a children.

As a Safeguarding Practitioner within CFPH your role will be to screen urgent and non-urgent contacts and referrals regarding children aged 0-18 years to gather health information from a variety of healthcare providers that will inform multiagency risk assessments and influence safeguarding responses.

The post holder will be required to maintain significant relationships with multiagency partners including police, officers, social workers, education staff and wider health care professionals. There is an expectation to work across the Think Family Safeguarding Service as required with an ability to travel to alternate health premises.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

Safeguarding at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust encompasses, promoting the welfare of children/young people and adults considerate of a Think Family approach to protect from harm. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the issues relating to children, young people, and families within a safeguarding context.

The post holder will support the Specialist Practitioner for Safeguarding Think Family to monitor and improve standards of care by providing family wide safeguarding advice and support to front line staff.

Be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to Safeguarding with awareness of legislative acts, including but not exclusive to, The Children Act 1989 and 2004; the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005; Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) 2018 (LPS) and the Care Act 2014.

The post holder will assist in the facilitation of safeguarding training for practitioners across the Trust.

The post holder will actively contribute to the governance processes within the safeguarding service

The post holder will maintain links between relevant agencies and areas that care for adults at risk, children, young people, and their families to always ensure their safety and protection.

The post holder will have a record of continuing professional development.

The post holder will be required to show commitment to safeguarding, interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively challenge senior staff and staff from other agencies.

To work autonomously taking responsibility for care, quality and safeguarding concerns and referral(s).

To work closely with the Safeguarding Team to deliver the safeguarding children’s, young peoples, their families and adults contextual safeguarding and domestic abuse agendas across the organisation.
