Assistant Speech and Language Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Speech and Language Therapist to join our adult SLT services working within hospital and community settings to deliver individual and group therapy to patients. The post holder will be working with a diverse client group, including patients who have suffered a stroke and who have long-term conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease.
The post will be based at Blyth Community Hospital but will also cover the Hexham area based within Hexham General Hospital for 2 days a week.
Our Speech and Language Therapy team delivers high quality services to adults with acquired communication and swallowing problems across Northumberland and North Tyneside, working in a variety of settings, including acute / hyperacute hospital settings, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation teams, nursing homes and clients own homes. We have well established video-fluoroscopy and FEES, VLE and cough clinics in a number of settings. We pride ourselves on providing a joined-up service for clients which involves team-working at all levels of our service delivery. An opportunity has arisen to join the adult speech and language therapy team within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust at this exciting time of service development.
Main duties of the post include
- Assisting Speech and Language Therapists to improve patients communication and/or swallowing skills of adults in a hospital and community setting, through direct intervention, liaison and joint working with other staff and carers and across agencies.
- To make and maintain therapy resources in order to facilitate intervention programmes, under Speech and Language Therapists’ direction.
- To contribute to patient/client assessment through observation.
