**So, what does a Support Worker do?**

Our Support Workers work in a variety of settings including community-based services (often supporting people in their own homes) to our Treatment & Recovery Centres.

One thing that is common across all of our services is a focus on personalised support and tailoring our services to the needs and aspirations of the people we support with a diverse range of care needs (including Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Mental Health Concerns, Complex Care, Substance Misuse issues to name a few).

**About you**

There are a few things that we look for in all of our support workers; we would need you to
- be a good communicator (verbally and in writing)
- be patient, confident and enthusiastic about caring for others
- be able to use your own initiative
- be able to work as part of a team
- have flexibility to work a varied shift pattern to provide 24-hour support
- share our AFG values

We don’t ask for any other relevant training or a previous career in care as full training will be provided - you just need a willingness to learn and develop.

Your pay_ - _between 1st April 2023 and 31st March 2024, our Support Workers will receive a rate equivalent to £11.00 per hour for all worked hours. This will be made up of the National Living Wage rate of £10.42 per hour - plus between 1st April 2023 and 31st March 2024 you will receive an additional top-up in your hourly rate for any worked hours of £0.58 - this will take your total hourly equivalent for all worked hours to £11.00 per hour - Our top-up payments are made in arrears.

- Where is this vacancy based?_
This vacancy is based in Blackburn, Lancashire.
- Who do you support?_
The service currently supports 4 people who have some Learning Disabilities, however we have capacity for 5. All of the people we support are able, mobile and have varied activities. All are able to make the choice whether they want to go out or not. We support with medication, cooking, cleaning, finances and 1:1 activities both home and community based.
- Where do they live?_
The property has 5 self contained flats that are occupied by the people we support and 1 self contained staff flat. It is on a busy main road that has good access to the local public transport links.
- What would a typical shift be like?_
The day may start with emotional support for the lady that resides at the service and will follow with medication duties for 3 out of the 4 people who currently live there. Due to the people we support all having their own flats, staff may be required to split their time between all 4 people. Generally there is not a lot of lone working and usually there will be at least 2 staff in the service most of the time, sometimes up to 5 depending on the activity schedule for that day. Staff may be required to attend health appointments, walk with one of the gents to his work place, go on an activity of the persons choice, cook meals and do some general cleaning with them. The ability to provide emotional support is essential. There are no specific set routines and the day will play out however the people we support choose.
