Applications are invited for the above post of Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with general medical accreditation based at either Worthing or St Richard’s Hospital, part of the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will join our friendly, dynamic team of respiratory consultants providing both general and specialist respiratory services. They will also contribute to the General Medical on call rota.

The post holder will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our future Respiratory service at UHS West which will include dedicated respiratory high care, and a comprehensive respiratory integrated care service.

This has been developed with a full-time plan in mind, though this can be adjusted with the successful applicant.

The main duties of the role would be to support and develop the respiratory in and outpatient service, at Worthing or St Richard’s Hospital. Working with colleagues at our other sites, Princess Royal in Haywards Heath and the Royal Sussex County in Brighton. Our aim is to build upon our strengths and improve our performance in other areas to become nationally recognised as an all-round excellent care provider achieving the best outcome for our patients.

**The clinical duties of the post include the following**:The post holder will**:

- Support the ward inpatient teams and provide day to day care of patients across the respiratory ward and necessary outlier areas in times of escalation.
- Undertake outpatient activity across the respiratory speciality including cancer, and relevant subspecialties
- Participate in Virtual Ward Activities
- Be included on the on-call rota for GIM. Currently on a 1 in 8 weekend basis. Less frequency for weekdays
- Be an active member of the Respiratory Team contributing to regular departmental meetings, service development, audit and governance.
- Provide appropriate cover for patients admitted under the care of another paired consultant during the absence on leave of colleagues within job plan.
- Provide education to the wider MDT as part of the Respiratory educational program.
- There is responsibility for general professional training of the junior members of the department and contributing to the training of nurses and other staff and participating in the activities of the Medical Education Centre.
- Keeping up to date with knowledge and skills via CPD
- Engagement with yearly appraisal and revalidation
