Welsh Essential post - Welsh is to be learnt within 12 months of appointment.

The Ward Clerk will give efficient clerical assistance to the Unit. The provision of an efficient clerical service is essential to ensure the speedy admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

By the nature of the duties, the Ward Clerk will be required to maintain strict confidentiality and will be expected to deal with patients and relatives with courtesy and discretion at all times.

The Ward Clerk is responsible to the Ward Managers in providing an efficient clerical service across the wards

For accountability and development purposes, the Ward Clerk will be under the direct responsibility of the Administration Manager.

Working as part of the Medical Ward Team the post holder will be required to give efficient clerical support to the nursing staff on the Ward.

Applicants must also have a good standard of education, be adaptable and have good organisational skills. A professional telephone manner is essential to receive and respond courteously to all telephone enquiries regarding patient care.

A key element of this role will be to support other team members during periods of sickness and annual leave and therefore a degree of flexibility is essential.

Previous ward clerk experience and knowledge of the Patient Administration System (WPAS) is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

The post holder may be required at times to work in peripheral hospitals within Medicine.

The ability to travel to other peripheral sites in a timely manner is required.

Welsh to be learned on appointment within 12 months
