This position has arisen due to a service review that has identified essential areas to strengthen and enhance the service to children in Stockport and provide appropriate workforce planning for the future leads of the service.

The team provides a service for children aged 0-18 with complex physical and learning needs who live in Stockport.

This new role provides an opportunity to join the Children’s Equipment and Adaptations Service (CEAS) in Stockport. This established service of over 20 years is funded by Stockport Council and provided by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and has continued to provide a specialist equipment and adaptations to children with a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. This service is part of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s Children’s Therapy Services including NHS services for; physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and our childrens’ home equipment store. There are close links with the Children’s Social Work teams, Stockport Homes, Inclusion Services /Education Health and Care Plan Team, Children’s Community Learning Disability Team and the Autism teams along with a wide range of voluntary services and external agencies.

The successful post holder will be supervised by the Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) within CEAS providing appropriate support and time for continued learning and development. As the post is new, it is open to development and it is an exciting time to join the service to be part of the continued shaping of the role.

Children will be seen in their own homes, schools, respite providers and the focus is on multi agency working and collaboration to maximise children’s independence, improve lives for carers and reduce risks within the home.

To carry out complex assessments of daily living, assess for suitable equipment and to work within relevant legislation to deliver quality minor and major adaptations, working closely with the Homes Improvement Agency and surveying teams.
- To implement an effective review process for those pieces of specialist equipment and adaptations that have highlighted risk to ensure the needs are still appropriately met.
- To work closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the Children’s Therapy Services in schools and early years settings to assess and review specialist moving and handling equipment and advise on adaptations.
- To be responsible for own caseload and defined area of the service working under supervision where needed.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
