**Hours per week: The post is to cover annual leave and sickness. There are no contracted or minimum hours. This is a zero hours.**
**Salary: £10.90 per hour**

**Driving Requirement: Full UK Manual Driving Licence**

**Please note that this service runs from Monday to Sunday 10am to 8pm (including bank holidays)**

We are looking for a caring and resilient person, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Independent Living team as a **Casual** **Service Support Worker** within the University Hospital of Wales.

Based in fast paced, busy and intense Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will undertake non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role and make visitors' stay as comfortable as possible.

**A day in the life of a Service Support Worker will involve**:

- Escorting patients to assigned departments
- Collecting prescriptions to speed up their discharge
- Providing emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment
- Providing emotional support to close friends and families
- Ensuring patients have food/drink while waiting for long hours and assisting with food distribution at meal times
- Driving patients home when discharged and making sure they are safely settled at home
- Signposting and referring patients to other sources of support in the community

**To be a successful Service Support Worker, you’ll need**:

- To know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users, dealing with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner.
- A good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care.
- Education to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience).
- To be IT literate.
- Full UK driving licence allowing you to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
