**About the role**

Working as a key part of the Tenant Services, Housing & Neighbourhood Services team you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the Council’s revenue and income streams are protected. You will prevent homelessness and support tenancy sustainment by providingtrial calculations for entitlement to housing benefit. Whilst offering advice on Welfare reform changes and promote financial and digital inclusion to all Council tenants and residents.

**Key tasks include**:

- Work within a team of staff in Tenant Services to deliver an integrated high-quality customer focussed service across a number of access channels
- Carry out a wide range of clerical and administrative duties relating to current and former tenant arrears, service charge administration, chargeable repairs and other housing related debts
- Investigate and answer enquiries relating to accounts from Resident, Tenants and other Council sections
- Identify and audit former and recharge accounts in credit, liaising with other departments to ensure there are no other debts to the council
- Utilize Experian Citizen view to extract information to locate former tenants and identify forwarding addresses or linked financial addresses for them.
- Use all in-house systems and appropriate documents available to us in order to find any listed NOK, and family members details to locate a debtor
- Advertise the repair service to all tenants so they understand their duties as a tenant and to help them manage their tenancies and finances efficiently
- Respond to customers in accordance with service level agreement in a consistent, positive and efficient manner
- Complete the tenancy sign up interview for permanent and temporary accommodation (face to face).
- Carry out an assessment of entitlement to housing benefit, to promote the Debt advice service, Housing Support Service and the various payment methods
- Ensure adherence to administrative procedures about collating information.
- Maintain a courteous, efficient, confidential and professional manner in all contacts with tenants.

**About you**
- Competence in Microsoft Office products, and database software programmes
- Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations
- The ability to interpret legislation to provide accurate advice to customers so that they can make informed decisions
- Proven record of working on own initiative and using own judgement to research and solve problems.
- A basic knowledge of arrears recovery and the legal procedures involved would be an advantage
