About the PSR
How payments work affects the society we live in; the challenges faced by the vulnerable; how likely we are to fall victim to fraud; and how easily we can manage our money. Payments underpin our economy.
Behind these payments are several important payment systems. We rely on these systems to support markets, facilitate competition, and drive innovation.
This helps to deliver new products, find new ways to protect people from harm, and deliver services that give people and businesses more choice and control about how to pay and be paid.
We need the technology, the rules governing the use of these systems and the markets they support to all work well.
This is where the PSR plays an important role - we are the economic regulator of, and competition authority for, those systems. We protect people and businesses and promote competition and innovation in these systems and the markets that they support.
To achieve this, we have set out in
our Strategy
four strategic priorities:
- Ensure users have continued access to the payment services they rely on and support a choice of payment options- Ensure users are sufficiently protected when using the UK's payment systems- Promote competition between UK payment systems and the markets supported by them; protecting users where that competition is not sufficient- Act to ensure the interbank systems provide the infrastructure, rules and incentives that foster innovation and competition in payments
Our work is high-profile and fast-moving, within a dynamic environment. The work that you’ll lead will be critical to delivering our strategy, helping the sector to deliver outcomes that protect the interests of people and businesses, and promoting competition and innovation in payments.
We have a bold vision for the future of payments in the UK. We are looking for people who can help us to achieve our strategic priorities.
The PSR is an independent economic regulator led by Managing Director, Chris Hemsley. We are directly accountable to Parliament and funded by the payments industry.
We work closely with other regulators involved in this sector, notably the Financial Conduct Authority, the Bank of England and the Competition and Markets Authority. Operationally we are an independent subsidiary of the Financial Conduct Authority.
Purpose of the role
We're recruiting an associate with expertise in data analysis and presentation, to join the Analysis team, within our Strategy, Analysis and Engagement division.
This is an exciting opportunity, that will allow the post holder to develop their skills in one of the UK’s most fast-moving sectors and have a real-world impact on people’s daily lives.
The role of an associate at the PSR is a dynamic one, which calls for a flexible and proactive approach.
You'll be a key part of developing how we analyse data about the sector we regulate.
This will include how we source, collect, analyse, and present key elements of our data, to ensure the PSR is able to focus on the right outcomes for those making and receiving payments.
This includes being part of developing our approach to monitoring our strategic outcomes outlined in our five-year strategy. You will also drive improvements in how we work, by championing best-practice and innovative ways of using data and analytics.
This role will include working closely with other parts of the PSR, including within the wider Strategy Analysis and Engagement Division Policy teams and the Supervision and Compliance Monitoring Division.
The data analysis you produce will add value to the wider organisation as well as being responsive to the needs of our internal customers. You will also support co-ordination with other authorities (such as the FCA and the Bank of England), as well as industry stakeholders to source and understand the data.
Key accountabilities- Developing and delivering dashboards and other data visualisations to provide key insights for senior internal audience and external stakeholders- Planning and delivering analysis on payment trends, contributing towards writing data and insight reports and shaping presentations-
- Support engagement with internal stakeholders to build an understanding of their data and analysis requirements- Understanding existing data sources and identifying new sources to address key questions and areas of interest for the PSR, including monitoring our strategic outcomes- Maintaining and evolving a data environment that holds data from a variety of sources, identifying data gaps and ensuring analysis can be conducted in a timely manner- Developing data requests and associated templates- Administering data quality checks and record keeping, ensuring our data management and analysis is robust, consistent and high quality- Play an active part in the development of data management processes within the organisation and a supporting role in embedding effective Data Governance within the organisation- Enabling the PSR to get more
