**Main Purpose**

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at 421 Air Base Squadron, Royal Air Force Menwith Hill, United Kingdom.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Assistant Chief of Training who will be responsible for planning, developing, implement, review, and evaluate the comprehensive fire prevention training, safety, and hazardous material handling programs for all functional areas of the base Fire Protection Flight.

You will prepare monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual training schedules for approval. Will also conduct recurring proficiency training in each functional area of fire protection.

The Assistant Chief will exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities such as providing counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

**Knowledge and Experience Required**:

- Applicants must demonstrate the following:_
- 1. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, methodology, and recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures; agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations; and federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances and building codes.
- 3. Knowledge and experience in the command of fire, explosion, entrapment, hazardous material, emergency medical and natural disaster response tactics, procedures, identification and mitigation actions, to include, techniques, practices and operation of fire department equipment used for communication, firefighting, rescue and HAZMAT Operations.
- 4. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of fire protection and prevention proficiency training.
- 5. Ability to prepare and present appropriate fire protection/prevention material for training purposes and produce presentations, graphs and/or reports to support training programs.
- 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct functions and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- 7. Ability to direct others under stressful and dangerous operating conditions and to formulate and effectively implement firefighting/emergency response plans.

**Other Important Information**
- Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 12-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.

**Other significant facts pertaining to this position are**:

- 1. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. Duties may require wear of firefighting personal protective equipment with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and entering environments designated as immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH)
- 3. The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as:

- Fire Officer III (includes Fire Officer I. II),
- Fire Instructor III (includes Fire Instructor I, II),
- Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I),
- HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations),
- Airport Fire Fighter (includes Firefighter I, II)
- 1. The incumbent must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System as a Fire Department Health and Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer within one year.
- 3. Subject to recall in the event of real fire/disaster emergencies. Incumbent may also be required to take part in test alerts and practice readiness exercises.
- 4. Required to participate in a physical fitness, program and pass annual physical.
- 5. May be required to serve as the sole incident Commander (IC) at an emergency scene until relieved.
