Energy & Sustainability Principal Consultant

We are looking for a leader The Principal Consultant will have management responsibility for a team of five specialists and consultants, delivering energy, sustainability and overheating strategies to a broad spectrum of clients, including major complex London development, low rise volume and regional housebuilder schemes and a variety non-domestic development.

Also responsible for professional development of the team, providing technical training, guidance and support to ensure quality of service delivery. Commercial awareness and the ability to manage budgetary performance of the team is vital, along with a proven track record of delivering growth through effective business development. We are looking for someone who can lead by example, use their initiative and implement robust processes to ensure consistency and quality of service delivery.

**Key Tasks**:

- Identifying training and development needs of the team, to formulate and implement training plans,
- supporting external accreditation and chartership of team members where needed. Use monthly 1-2-1s to support progress and identify additional training needs.
- Ensure that workload is effectively managed and assigned, coordinating service delivery across
- multiple disciplines.
- Work with the Commercial Director to develop a business plan for the planning and IES team
- covering investment, market opportunity, recruitment and software opportunities.
- Ensure that our reports are compiled against all relevant regulatory and planning requirements, both current and future, to future proof our client’s developments.
- Review completed projects to identify process improvements and training opportunities to
- continually develop our service offering.
- Work closely with our business development team to input on the tender process, ensuring quality and accuracy of return, appropriate and competitive costings, attending tender interviews and improving conversion, whilst ensuring sufficient capacity to deliver successful tenders. Ensure that projects are commercially successful.
- Where required, lead on major complex development to ensure successful service delivery, including attending client workshops, supporting the team and producing written reports and strategies.
- Identify solutions to challenging client situations, consulting multiple stakeholders to take ownership of a resolution.
- Work with the Operations, Delivery and Sales team leads to ensure consistency of service delivery, coordination and operational effectiveness.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Excellent understanding of the GLA and local borough planning requirements and their interaction with both Approved Document L of the Building Regulations and the upcoming Future Homes Standard.
- A firm understanding of overheating management strategies through the use of dynamic simulation modelling through IES.
- Knowledge of industry accreditations schemes such as BREEAM, WELL, NABERS are beneficial but not essential.
- Knowledge of Passivhaus standard and operational energy modelling processes (CIBSE TM54) and whole life cycle carbon assessments (preferably using One Click LCA).
- Demonstrated experience in advising on and integrating low carbon solutions into building design.
- Successful track record of managing, developing and growing a team Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.
