The Royal College of Psychiatrists is seeking two highly motivated and insightful Media specialists for the following roles:
- Senior Media and Communications Officer - News
- Senior Media and Communications Officer - Campaigns

If you have sound news judgement, a creative approach to campaigns, excellent writing skills and are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people living with mental illness, one of these roles could be for you.With a diverse remit including Children’s mental health, forensic and criminal justice, eating disorders, gambling, and addictions as well as global health and much more, no two days are ever the same.Join our talented fast-paced team, to help influence news reports, shape stories, and bring mental illness and psychiatry to the forefront, across print, broadcast, and online media, in addition to our own channels.From reacting to the Online Harms Bill, to commenting on winter pressures in A&E, and not forgetting the imploding NHS waiting lists or mental health crisis - the Royal College of Psychiatrists has a voice on it all.Your expertise as a journalist and experience in communications will help you to create compelling content, impactful campaigns, and drive awareness of our vital work across several areas of the College.This is your opportunity to be at the heart of influencing the public narrative on mental health.**ABOUT YOU**You will be calm and efficient, a person who is able to switch priorities easily while dealing with sensitive, complex, and high-profile issues.As a social media advocate, you will have experience of using it to successfully listen, engage and share information. We expect you to have a good knowledge of using multiple platforms and able to easily create new content for them.You should be prepared to lead by example by demonstrating diligence, willingness to work above and beyond the tasks set, and to work flexibly to make sure that tasks are finished in time, ensuring that the College is able to respond to the 24-hour media day.**FOR THE NEWS ROLE**:
This is an exciting opportunity for a good communicator who thrives in the newsroom, enjoys spotting breaking news stories and working with our policy team to draft swift, robust, and appropriate responses at short notice.Leading our newsdesk, you will seek out relevant mental health angles for stories in the daily news cycle, as well as reacting to incoming calls from high-profile media outlets wanting an expert opinion on a mental health story.- You will organise interviews, draft sharp reactive statements, develop our lived experience stories and brief journalists to generate and influence our coverage. You will also work with our spokespeople to confidently provide them with proactive media-handling advice and briefings.**FOR THE CAMPAIGNS ROLE**:
With a unique focus on driving our proactive stories and campaigns. This role will involve collaborating with influencers and our expert members to amplify our impact and raise the profile of mental illness and understanding of psychiatry.You will be an all-rounder with a broad range of communications expertise. Ideally you will have come from a newsroom and a busy press office, work well under pressure, have an excellent writing style, and be full of creative media ideas.You will lead on a wide range of projects that help us to achieve our proactive media and communications ambitions. You will use your warm media contacts, as well as building new networks to achieve the College’s communications objectives.We only recruit the best and in return for your commitment the College offers an attractive salary and benefits.
