**Head of Sustainability & Decarbonisation**

**Job Objectives and Responsibilities**:
The Head of Sustainability & Decarbonisation (HOSD) is a key role to support the delivery of the enhanced Sustainability, Decarbonisation and EMS requirements under the Department for Transport TFM 3rd Generation Contract. The HOSD with be responsible for the development of a strategic and cost-effective approach to the Sustainability and Decarbonisation Plan and associated documents which is aligned wherever possible with both the MITIE and Client Strategic Objectives.

**Main Duties**
Provide the principal support and ownership for the development and delivery of the Sustainability Management Plan required under the contract during mobilisation, transition, and steady state.
Develop and embed the EMS particularly the environmental aspects and impacts assessment and legal compliance register with associated support, training and internal audits.
Develop a decarbonisation strategy with the relevant department and business unit leads that is aligned to their decarbonisation and Net Zero objectives.
Develop a waste reduction strategy aligned to departmental and business unit targets and objectives including Greening Government Commitments and removal of Consumer Single Use Plastics.
Develop the ‘wider' sustainability strategy to incorporate social aspects as well as the current environmental aspects.
Establish a monitoring and reporting regime covering all sustainability objectives together with benefits tracking on applicable sustainability projects / tasks.
Development of case studies to use both internally and externally.
Develop and articulate a strategic approach to identifying opportunities to deliver added value to the client including additional works.
Engagement with Strategic Account Director, Head of Operational Delivery, Head of Projects, Head of QSHE Manager and Head of Commercial agreeing sustainability related contractual requirements and ensuring they are met.
Undertake the strategic lead on projects and liaison with key client stakeholders, including the identification of funding opportunities & budgets available for sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.
Produce monthly, quarterly and annual client reports.
Review and input into Client Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon Strategy reports and plans.
Ensure the organisation and the client are compliant with ISO 14000 family of standards.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications**:
Chartered Membership of appropriate professional body (IEMA preferred)
Lead Auditor experience and associated qualification
IT literate in MS Office and systems management software
BPSS and NPPV security clearances.
