Support Worker

Required for a client who lives in his own home with his partner.
In November 2011, the client was involved in a road traffic incident whilst riding his motorcycle. He sustained some orthopaedic injuries and a traumatic brain injury. He has a heart condition (AF) which he has had since a child.
He has made a good physical recovery and is independent and mobile with no aids. He experiences residual issues with cognition. The Client has a poor short term and working memory. He has limited insight into his cognitive difficulties and can experience anger and frustration.
The Purpose of the role is to
- Encouraging and support the client to book, manage and attend appointments.
Support the client to identify leisure activities that he might enjoy and engage in.
Encourage the client to attend at chosen leisure activities.
Support the client to continue to adjust and accept cognitive limitations arising from his injuries.
Support the client with projects such as completing his shed.
Help to break down his ideas into small manageable steps.
Encourage him to use coping strategies to manage activities.
Encouraging and supporting the client to contiune to attend his motorbike club.
Supporting the client to lead a life which has purpose and meaning whilst considering his safety and congative abilities.
Previous experience in a similar role would be preferred.
A full driving licence is essential and access to own car.
A recognised Health and Social Care qualification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) is desirable
Variety of hours available and can be discussed prior to interview
9 Hours per week
£15.00 per hour weekdays
£15.00 per hour weekends
This position requires a fully enhanced disclosure request from the DBS.
You will also be required to register with the DBS Update Service.
