Overview

Purpose of the Job
- To drive the employability strategy of Law at Bangor, specifically enhancing and deepening its relationship with employers and in conjunction with academic staff, professional bodies for students on all Law programmes at Bangor.
- To deliver quality teaching which engages students, and will establish a record of teaching excellence at all levels.
- To work as part of a team to establish a Bangor University Law Clinic, and act as principal solicitor having conduct of the cases on which students work, providing free legal advice to members of the public, providing excellent training and supervision to students, and developing and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders.
- To develop SQE related requirements into the curriculum.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of projects.
- To perform administrative tasks effectively as designated by the Head of School.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:

- Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School’s portfolio of Law modules and programmes at various levels, according to the needs of the School;
- Work with colleagues to plan, prepare and deliver lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate level, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles, and class sizes, including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
- Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
- Examining and supervising / co-supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
- To engage in collaborative professional practice activity and identifying, developing, and implementing professional opportunities;
- Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and provide advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor;
- Initiating and taking forward the development of new programmes that will appeal to a wider market.

Law Clinic duties will include:

- Work as part of a team to establish Bangor University Law Clinic (initially at small scale) including all administrative responsibilities associated with the establishment of such;
- Contribute to the administration of the Law Clinic as part of a team with other School/College staff and student volunteers;
- Acting as principal supervising solicitor to students training and providing advice within the Clinic, acting as solicitor with conduct of Law Clinic cases providing free legal advice to members of the public;
- Seeking membership of the Law Works Law Clinics Network, and keeping abreast of developments in CLE.

Employability duties will include:

- Working as part of a team with other School staff to develop and maintain good relationships with stakeholders including third sector organisations, law firms and barristers’ chambers, and other sector stakeholders, including to widen the range of work placement, internship, mentoring and other opportunities available to students within the School.
- Keeping up to date with the practices of graduate recruiters and disseminating this to students via employability sessions.
- Maintain an awareness of developments within the legal services industry, and the latest developments within graduate recruitment.

Other administrative duties will include:

- Participating in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School;
- Contributing to the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
- Contributing to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to the working of the committee structures of the School and College;
- Contributing to the organisation of events to promote employability;
- Liaising and working with other staff positively within the College and the University, and other bodies as required;
- Undertaking other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.
