**Job Description and Person Specification**

**Town Hall Cleaner/Caretaker**

Grade NJC SCP Level 2 - £20,441.00 (per annum - pro rata for part time - pay award pending)

Hours of Work - 15 hours per week - regular Saturday working required

**Job Purpose - Cleaner / Caretaker**
- 1. _Ensuring high levels of cleanliness are maintained in Newark Town Hall and other sites owned by Newark Town Council.
- 2. _Supporting building hirers and building users during their booking/event/hire to ensure their use of the Town Hall proceeds as planned.
- 3. _Assisting with building security including opening and closing the building.
- 4. _Basic building maintenance support _._

**Principal Duties & Responsibilities**

Working under the direction of the Town Hall Facilities manager the role will involve the following:
1. Undertaking a variety of cleaning tasks and duties.

2. Setting up the Town Hall for various functions and bookings.

3. Monitoring cleaning stock levels.

4. Reporting building damage.

5. Undertaking building safety checks.

6. Opening and closing the building at appropriate times.

7. Meeting contractors at the building.

8. Logistical support to events and meetings held by the Council in the Town Hall.

**General Matters**

It is the Authority’s aim to reach agreement to reasonable changes, but if agreement is not possible, management reserves the right to insist on changes to your job description after consultation with you.

**Person Specification**

**Experience & Qualifications**
- Essential_
- Experience of cleaning in a commercial environment.
- Experience of caretaking in a busy commercial building.

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Essential_
- Good spoken English.
- Good work place safety knowledge and awareness.
- Good level of numeracy and literacy.
- Basic level of building maintenance skills.

**Personal Attributes**
- Essential_
- Excellent communication skills.
- Display a good personal manner and presentable appearance.
- Confident in dealing with a wider variety of members of the public.
- Display tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times
- Display good organisational skills: evaluate competing priorities & prioritise appropriately
- Ability to work under pressure to achieve, both to deadlines and high aspirational service demands
- Able to work equally as effectively as part of a team or on own initiative
- A flexible approach to working hours is essential to meet the needs of the job.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 15 per week

**Salary**: £10.60 per hour
