Healthcare Support Worker

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join the Haematology / Oncology Day Unit which is temporarily based in QMH due to COVID-19. The department’s normal base will be VHK. The hours of working are core shifts between the hours of Monday to Friday 0800-18.00.
Applicants must have a keen interest in working in the day unit setting and be able to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach to delivery of nursing care. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to this role, alongside a keen interest and understanding of cancer care delivery. A good level of IT skills are required.
The successful applicant will support the registered nursing staff in their delivery of chemotherapy and supportive care to patients with Haematology/Oncology disorders and should be educated to a minimum of SVQ level II in healthcare and be willing to undertake further study relevant to the area including SVQ level III in healthcare. They should be able to carry out venipuncture to enable them to assist with outpatient clinics run from the unit. This post involves further opportunity to learn the skills of cannulation and care of CVADS if not already achieved.
The ability to travel across Victoria and Queen Margaret Hospital sites to meet the needs of the service is essential.
