Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor

Department: Teaching, Learning & Assessment (Functional Skills Team)

Reporting to: Functional Skills IQA

**Primary Purpose**

To manage a caseload of learners and deliver functional skills provision to ensure that their learning needs are identified and met accordingly; provide support and training where appropriate, and monitor progress in order to achieve success within identified timeframes.

**Key Responsibilities**

Main Duties:

- To deliver core functional skills and foundation programmes using a blended learning approach: online learning, e-portfolio, group sessions and one-to-one tutorials.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of learner progress, tracking and achievement.
- Use data/reports to ensure actions are implemented to drive regular monthly progress.
- Work to set deadlines and agreed timescales.
- Agree targets and action plans for off-track learners.
- Facilitate and assess speaking, listening and communication exams.
- Under supervision, support learners to achieve their qualifications successfully and within a reasonable timeframe. This will require the flexibility to deal with varying abilities and the sensitivity to identify particular learning requirements.
- Liaise with the wider TLA department (the pharmacy tutor teams) to ensure learners achieve their full programme, by communicating progress, developments and/or issues/requirements, thus allowing timely intervention, support, adaptation/corrective action and ultimately completion.
- Network with colleagues to promote best practice across the sector.
- Maintain appropriate continuing professional development, including attendance of all relevant training events, to ensure a high standard and quality of teaching, assessment and support.
- To develop a professional ‘mentor’ relationship with learners.

Additional duties:

- Comply with quality assurance systems to ensure consistency and continuous improvement.
- Attend all standardisation sessions.
- Complete all requisite paperwork to meet audit requirements.
- Any other duties as required by your line manager.
- Maintain high quality working relationships with employers and awarding organisations to encourage excellent multiagency working.
