**Job Title: Pastoral Lead (Short Courses)**

**Location: Sherborne International (Sherborne School)**

**Reporting to: Director of Short Courses, Sherborne School**

**Hours of Work**:This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week.Hours of work are likely to be Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm (less an unpaid hour for lunch). Some flexibility in hours may be required on occasion to meet the demands of the post and may include weekends. Further flexibility in hours may be required, particularly during the duration of courses that are being held at Sherborne International. This role may require some overseas travel to support recruiting and marketing efforts.

**Salary**:Up to £37,500.00 per annum, depending on experience.

**Holidays**:Five weeks holiday per year (plus Bank Holidays). Attendance will be required on Bank Holidays that fall during term time, for which time off in lieu will be given. Holiday only to be taken following prior authorisation from the Director of Short Courses, taking into account busy periods. In view of the requirements of the role, holiday leave cannot be taken during the period the Summer courses are running unless authorised by the Director of Short Courses.

**Main Purpose**:
The Pastoral Lead will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of our short course offerings throughout the year. Taking a leading role during the active course periods, you will be the face of our programs to our students, ensuring a supportive and enriching boarding environment. Your responsibilities extend to overseeing the pastoral team, where you will guide and coordinate efforts to prioritize the welfare of our students. This multifaceted position combines hands-on course facilitation, team management, and a strong commitment to the well-being of our students.

You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, operating with confidence and emotional sensitivity in a wide range of situations.

**Our Courses**

Our Short Courses currently run for 2 to 3 weeks around the Easter holidays, and for 6-8 weeks in the Summer (usually July and August). There is scope for other courses to be developed at other times of the year.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Working under the direction of the Director of Short Courses and in collaboration with the Short Course leadership team (Compliance and Operations Manager and Academic Manager) this role will have several areas of focus, depending on whether a course is running or not. During the period a course is running it is likely that the hours required for the role will increase, however after the courses have finished, and in between the courses, the working pattern can be a little more flexible.

**Duties will include;**
- Helping prepare all documentation for parents, students, teachers and support staff, duty rosters, students’ manuals, etc, taking the lead in updating/preparation of documentation, including training records of pastoral staff.
- Helping to develop the excursions and activities programme for the upcoming course, for example identifying suitable venues for the students to visit, and then supporting the necessary logístical steps.

**During the courses the Pastoral Lead becomes the ‘face’ of Sherborne to our parents, staff and students - from their arrival at one of our camps, to our introductory assemblies and up until they leave. We want the students to maximise their opportunity while in Sherborne, and the Pastoral Lead will be central to that - guiding the way with enthusiasm, maturity and sense of fun.**

**Duties to include;**
- Providing guidance and leadership to the temporary pastoral team, fostering a collaborative and supportive team culture.
- Coordinating team efforts to ensure seamless execution of pastoral care services for students.
- Conducting regular team meetings to discuss goals, address challenges, and enhance team cohesion.
- Taking a lead role during active course periods, serving as the initial point of contact for students, parents and the pastoral team.
- Conducting orientations and welcome sessions to create a positive and inclusive boarding environment.
- As one of the Short Courses’ Designated Safeguarding Leads, taking a leading role in ensuring that a safeguarding culture is part of the wider understanding and practice during the Course.
- Delivering induction training in Child Protection and Safeguarding training for all Summer Short Course staff, then ensuring that Safeguarding awareness is maintained at a level sufficient to ensure best practice and regulatory compliance.
- Dealing with serious incidents and student problems, in co-ordination with Director of Short Courses and Compliance and Operations Manager. This may include making referrals to the Dorset Safeguarding Children Board and any other appropriate statutory authorities.
