Chepstow Leisure Centre Preschool are looking for a suitably qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic preschool leader to join and lead our staff. We are a fun, friendly early years setting run by a voluntary committee, providing a safe, happy and caring environment for pre-school children aged 2.5 - 4 years to learn through play.

At Chepstow Leisure Centre Playgroup, we believe every experience is an opportunity to learn, so we plan fun and exciting sessions to help children build confidence and nurture their curious minds. We value each child’s individuality, ideas and experiences and actively encourage children to explore, be creative and develop their ideas in collaboration with other children as well as adults.

**Place of Work - **Chepstow Leisure Centre, Welsh Street, Chepstow.

**Hours - **Monday-Thursday, 8.45am-1.00pm, Term time only 37 weeks of the year - Further hours during school holidays are available at a local nursery.

**Salary - **Starting hourly rate £12.00p/h

**Holidays - **Holiday Pay - paid quarterly

**Responsibilities and duties**

To assume overall responsibility for the delivery of high quality care and education to pre-school children aged between 2.5 - 4 years.

To ensure the provision of a safe, stimulating early years environment in which children are able to learn and play through planned activities.

To manage staff, fulfil legal and statutory requirements with Care Inspectorate Wales, and ensure pre-school policies and procedures are implemented within the setting.

To be the link person between the playgroup committee, the parents and the staff.

**Main Responsibilities**

**Children**

Plan, prepare and deliver activities which meet children’s individual developmental needs in line with Foundation Phase, including evaluation and assessment, with the assistance of all staff.

Have up-to-date knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment and reporting, and be able to support staff with this.

Administer first aid as appropriate.

Ensure that the group’s equipment is set out before each session and cleared away after children have left.

Implement procedures for children with additional needs.

Follow guidelines and procedures for child protection and safeguarding as recommended by the registering authority.

Encourage child participation and raise awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Ensure parents are kept fully informed about their child’s activities, achievements and progress, and encourage parental involvement and support of the setting.

**Staff Management**

Manage, co-ordinate and supervise staff on a daily basis and inform the committee of any problems, disagreements and/or concerns and agree action plans.

Co-ordinate regular team meetings and ensure all staff participate in the planning of activities and events; monitor the effectiveness of the plans.

Carry out regular one-to-one supervision of staff and encourage them to review the quality of their practice, evaluating all aspects of their work.

Ensure training and the developmental needs of all staff are addressed and provided for, including your own personal development.

Assist the committee with recruitment and carry out the induction of any new staff.

**Administration**

Supervise the management of playgroup and carry out day-to-day administration including registers and record-keeping.

Ensure arrangements are in place for service users, staff and stakeholders to give feedback about the quality of service, to express concerns, to make complaints, and to make sure all arrangements are working effectively.

Provide continuing oversight of the service’s Statement of Purpose, record-keeping systems, and policies and procedures.

Work with the staff to review and amend all policies and procedures annually and to notify the CIW in line with its statutory notification requirements.

Have suitable arrangements in place for the establishment and maintaining of a system for monitoring, reviewing and improving the quality of care and support provided by the playgroup.

Attend all committee meetings and provide regular updates to committee members on the running of playgroup, its achievements, the adequacy of resources and any significant concerns.

Provide an annual statement of compliance to the service provider in line with Regulation 81 of the Regulated Services (Service Providers and Responsible Individuals) (Wales) Regulations 2017.

Ensure that the service has an open, transparent culture which is consistent with its duty of candour.

Maintain documentation in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and keep confidential any information regarding children, their families or other staff.

Liaise with CIW, social services and other professionals as necessary.

Work in partnership with other agencies and any other professional bodies to which you may be affiliated.
