Our nuclear power stations have generated enough low carbon electricity to power all homes in the UK for over 18 years. We are now preparing to decommission the first power stations that have reached the end of their life. We are looking for an EIA expert to join us on the next exciting phase of our journey to prepare for the decommissioning our nuclear sites safely, securely, cost effectively and with care for our people, communities and the environment.
Decommissioning the UK’s nuclear legacy is a complex undertaking. We are committed to working with the Nuclear Decommission Authority (NDA), and Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) as future custodians of our sites, environmental regulators, local authorities and communities to leave our 7 sites safe and ready for their next use.

**The Opportunity**
The EIA Lead plays a key role in ensuring that planning and EIA consents under the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA), and Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations (EIADR), are secured in a timely manner to enable the decommissioning programme, and to ensure that the conditions set out in commercial agreement between EDF and UK Government to obtain consents prior to transfer of decommissioning responsibilities to NDA and Nuclear Restoration Services are achieved.
The EIA Lead will work closely with internal stakeholders including engineering and station teams to define the project description and assumptions that will underpin the EIA. The EIA Lead will be responsible for managing consultants, providing technical reviews, and manage review of specific disciplines (including radiological, waste management, ecology and marine) by EDF’s own in-house environmental professionals. The EIA Lead will build positive relationships, identify and manage consent risk, and negotiate appropriate mitigation.

We can offer a competitive salary from £71,101 to £84,892 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

**What you’ll be doing**
As part of your role, your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development of the project description and assumptions register that will underpin the EIAs working with EDF engineering teams, and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Nuclear Restoration Services as required.
- Collaborate with EDF engineering and site teams to ensure that environmental criteria has been taken into account in developing the decommissioning strategy and develop the narrative to be included in the Environmental Statement on the consideration of main alternatives.
- Manage external planning and EIA consultants in a contract management and technical lead capacity to ensure delivery of programmes in accordance with time, quality and cost tolerances.
- Manage EIA consultants to define assessment scope and completion of baseline environmental surveys, supporting station teams in arranging and executing access arrangements in accordance with safe systems of work in accordance with EDF health and safety policy.
- Lead engagement with planning authorities, ONR (in relation to EIADR only), other statutory consultees, and local communities. Working with appointed consultants and EDF Communications Managers, to develop Consultation Plans, material for consultation events, to represent EDF at consultation events, track feedback and seek to resolve issues where possible.
- Develop a proposed approach to mitigation to be agreed with the Consents and Statutory Engagement Manager and the relevant EDF governance board. Maintain a mitigation register.
- Manage the discharge of conditions attached to the planning and EIADR consents following determination, and ensure compliance with the permissions gained when planning and carrying out the decommissioning work.
- Acts as a point of contact for provision of technical advice and support to the stations on EIADR and EIA requirements.
**Who you are**
Membership at an appropriate level of IEMA and/ or MRTPI.
You will have a good understanding of EIA processes (scoping, assessment, mitigation), environmental assessment methods and applicable legislation.
Experience of EIA project management with client-side or consultancy experience is essential. with demonstrable evidence of contract management to deliver technical outputs to time, quality and cost.
