**The company**

British Engines Group Company, Michell Bearings, designs and manufactures hydrodynamic bearings for the marine, defence and industrial sectors. Michell Bearings revolutionised ship building and sea transportation with the invention of the tilting pad bearing over 100 years ago and operates from sites in South Shields (UK), and Bangalore (India), with offices in the USA and Germany.

**What you’ll be doing**
- Repairing whitemetal linings using oxy-acetylene gas torches and potentially TIG welding
- Building up bearing linings where complete re-metalling is not appropriate using oxy-acetylene gas torches and potentially TIG welding
- Designing/manufacturing any steel jigs required to gravity cast whitemetal
- Fitting and bedding activities
- De-burring and identification of components
- Stripping down and surveying of bearings and associated equipment
- Ensuring that all work recorded on the shop floor data collection system
- Demonstrating that planned inspections and tests have been completed with satisfactory results recorded and / or identified on the necessary paperwork, as defined by the OPC requirements
- Ensuring that the correct drawing is used and selecting appropriate tooling or inspection equipment with the correct calibration status
- Working with management and other departments to ensure the company complies with current legislation, Health and Safety codes of practice on safe working and environmental requirements
- Ensuring good housekeeping standards are maintained (6S system)
- Ensuring quality standards are maintained throughout all activities of control
- Carrying out any other duties not listed above as may reasonably be expected

**Who we are looking for**

You must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications and be capable of developing an understanding of hydrodynamic bearing repair procedures. You must also be capable of developing an understanding of the function / operation of the company’s products and the associated failure modes and be willing to work additional hours as and when required to support the needs of the business.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent communication and organisation skills, as well as self-motivator with a hands on approach. Being able to work independently as well as part of a team is essential. Someone who works well in a team and has the motivation to contribute to the ongoing performance improvement of the department is essential

A full UK driving licence is also a must.

The shift pattern for this role is the double dayshift (week about) shift system, to allow optimum capacity of both whitemetalling and fitting duties
