**Volunteer Coordinator - PONTYPRIDD Foodbank**

**Location**: Riverside Centre, Treforest

**Hours**: 25 hours per week, days and times by agreement

**Salary**: £16,900 per annum (equal to £13 per hour or £23,660 fte)

The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Foodbank Manager, with lead responsibility and management for all volunteer roles, including recruiting and training new volunteers and supporting and retaining existing volunteers. They will ensure that they follow agreed policies, procedures and best practice.

The post holder will deputise for the Foodbank Manager in their absence.

**Responsibilities of the role**
- To lead on the recruitment, selection, training and support of volunteers.
- To produce volunteer rotas ensuring that all roles are covered during foodbank sessions.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues to maximise volunteer opportunities, support and engagement.
- To support the work of the Foodbank by implementing an organisational audit of volunteer skills leading to a Volunteer Strategy.
- To ensure all records relating to volunteers are recorded on the organisational database and kept accurate and up to date in accordance with organisational and data protection guidelines.
- To advise on best practice for volunteer management.
- To advise on the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures related to volunteering.
- To ensure that systems are in place for the support of volunteers, including developing and delivering a range of relevant and engaging training opportunities, e.g. First Aid, Dealing with Difficult Clients, Effective Listening Skills, Signposting.
- To build and maintain good relationships with volunteers becoming the key contact on the staff team for the volunteers.
- To support and develop volunteer networks where appropriate.
- To ensure formal complaints concerning volunteers are responded to in accordance with the organisation’s complaints policy.
- To deputise for the Foodbank Manager in their absence.

**VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR - PONTYPRIDD FOODBANK**

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**:
**EXPERIENCE**
- Experience of working with and managing volunteers and volunteer programmes.
- Experience in the design and delivery of volunteer training programmes.
- Understanding of best practice in volunteering and up-to-date knowledge of legislation as it applies to volunteering.
- Experience of developing and delivering services to sensitive or vulnerable groups.
- Experience of inspiring volunteers to achieve against specific organisational goals.
- Experience of training others individually or as a group.
- Experience of developing partnerships and working within a multi-disciplinary team with colleagues at all levels.

**SKILLS**
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task effectively i.e. the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise workload, manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a particular emphasis on contact with volunteers and supporters, and an ability to relate to a wide range of people.
- Ability to work as part of a busy team.
- Confidence in dealing with unexpected situations and problems that arise as a result of the nature of volunteers, including when working alone and away from Pontypridd Foodbank premises, e.g. supermarket collections.
- Ability to motivate self and others by demonstrating a passion for the work of the organisation.

**DESIRABLE CRITERIA**:

- Experience of working in the voluntary sector (paid or unpaid), or in a health or social care setting.
- Awareness of Pontypridd Foodbank, Trussell Trust or Foodbank issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of the drivers of food poverty.
- Knowledge of the work of Pontypridd Foodbank as a charity and an understanding of the mutual benefits of effective partnership working with volunteers and service users.
- An understanding of the issues faced by people who visit the foodbank or experience of working with people affected by these issues in a time of personal crisis.
