**Senior Training Manager (Training Support and Apprenticeships)**

**Overview of project/role**

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the senior training team across all Operational training for Transport for London. This role is responsible for setting the vision for learning quality and excellence for our Apprentice Unit as well as setting the standards for trainer professionalism and supporting integral delivery outputs for training and competence across the whole of TfL Operations.

This role is accountable for leading a number of teams who are responsible for delivering Apprenticeships and workplace qualifications for the business in line with expected external standards including the ESFA and OFSTED Standards as an employee provider. The role will also lead teams focused on supporting delivery areas across the department with trainer professionalism and accreditations through City & Guilds for development of skills as well as support for our training delivery and competence outputs in line with ORR requirements.

As part of the Operational Training senior leadership team, this role will support with building a wider training community throughout Operational Training to drive training solutions and efficiencies, create consistency and improve the overall quality of training across all operational areas. You will be working across the whole department and with stakeholders across multiple operational areas to ensure learning outcomes are aligned to business needs.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Leads a specialist training function to provide training solutions to the operational and asset environments within the business.
- Accountable for all activities required to meet ESFA funding for levy draw down and OFSTED requirements..
- Liaising and partnering with key stakeholders within the business to advise and manage training programmes and strategies to meet business demand, ensuring customer satisfaction is exceeded.
- Accountable for creating trainer quality assurance capability, setting trainer standards.
- Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance of training and competence for multiple operational areas, including the management of a competency management systems, across all Operations in order to deliver organisational benefits and strategic business priorities.
- Role is responsible for Revenue Strategy through building forward-looking revenue streams, and building customer relationships.
- Ensure the effective management of external suppliers and commercial contracts in accordance with the organisational policies..
- Continual improvement of training processes, systems, and frameworks to better meet the business need and improve accountability and function to support strategic problem solving.

**Skills**
- Ability to utilise knowledge of TfL/external processes to determine the most effective learning intervention for the business
- Commercial and high analytical and financial awareness to enable business critical decisions to be made effectively
- Ability to interpret and challenge business proposals to provide the business with the best solution to meet the business requirement
- High level of business acumen and commercial awareness - an understanding of the market

**Knowledge**
- Business degree or relevant professional qualification or equivalent
- Working knowledge of blended learning
- Experience of leading operational delivery in a complex, real-time railway operations environment
- Knowledge of change management techniques..
- Knowledge of Employer Provider status, ESFA regulations and OFSTED processes

**Experience**
- Proven experience of leading and delivering training in a large complex organisation.
- Leading teams through change.
- Proven experience of working with young people (16+ years) in an apprentice/educational environment.
- Working in a highly unionised environment.
- Negotiating with key stakeholders in the business and suppliers.
- Managing diverse teams in both project and line management environments.
