We are excited to have the option to recruit on a Maternity Cover Fixed Term Contract for 9 months for a Residential Childcare Officer to work alongside a newly established and dynamic Staff Team, within a 2 Bedded Temporary Children’s Home with a Young Person with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. In preparation for movement in 2024 to a new development purpose built 4 Bedded Children’s Home with an external Staying Close annex / provision as part of South Tyneside Council’s vision and expansion to provide our operational capability and offer in South Tyneside. Where there may be the possibility of a permanent position within South Tyneside Residential Services becoming available during the tenure of the Fixed Term Contract.

As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality Children’s Residential provision including working directly with Children, Young People, and their families. Residential Childcare Officers are an integral part of the wider Care Team and work alongside other professionals to advocate, support and develop Children, Young People, and their families to offer and support positive experiences, develop knowledge and skills in preparation for adulthood and to achieve the best possible outcomes by using a range of intervention methods and approaches. The role will support the wider Service to achieve its vision of providing high quality care to Children and Young People within a warm, caring, and nurturing family styled Children’s Home.

About You:

- You will have a Level 3 or 4 Qualification in Children and Young People (or willingness to undertake).
- You have previous experience of direct work with Children and Young People and their families, but not essential.
- You can demonstrate an ability to place the Child or Young Person and family at the centre of all practice and decision making.
- You can undertake shift work, including Sleep-Ins, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
- Experience of working in a Children’s Residential setting is desirable, but not essential.
- You will benefit from a package of support and personal and professional development opportunities.
