Senior Lunchtime Leader

**JOB PURPOSE**
Our Academy requires a Senior Lunchtime Leader to enhance the children’s enjoyment of lunchtime, and promote good behaviour, by organising and leading activities and teaching children how to play. This will include setting up team games, encouraging appropriate use of equipment and promoting fair play. The role will also involve line managing the current team of midday supervisors in conjunction with the senior midday supervisor. Design, implement and develop a lunchtime activity timetable for the students to increase enrichment opportunities. This post will also include the supervision of students, supporting lunch and play activities and promoting positive behaviour.
**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To develop a varied programme of activities as part of the lunchtime play in collaboration with our sports coaches.
- To organise and oversee the operation of the lunchtime play.
- To ensure that a timetable of day to day activities is set up and maintained.
- To communicate with Sports Ambassadors and the School Council to ensure that children have their say in the activities available during lunchtime play.
- To liaise with other staff to ensure the smooth running of lunchtimes.
- To suggest recommendations to the Leadership Team on the improvements and development of the lunchtime play.
- To ensure that all equipment and areas are available, usable and safe.
- To organise ‘wet’ lunchtime activities in the classrooms.
- To work with all children responding to their individual needs and differing abilities to ensure their success.
- To teach through modelling and discussion, mediation strategies and support children to solve minor issues.
- To understand the varying needs of the children - physical, medical and emotional.
- To refer children to trained staff to receive first aid at an appropriate level.
- To take appropriate action in emergencies and summon assistance as required.
- Work with Senior Midday Supervisor to devise rotas for the effective use of all midday supervisors.
- Work with Senior Midday Supervisor to reorganise rotas during absences, in order to maintain appropriate supervision ratios.
- Work with Senior Midday Supervisor Support to carry out an induction process for new members of the Midday Supervisor Team.
- Lead on the annual performance management cycle for the midday team including the lunchtime first aider.
- Identify training needs for Midday Supervisors where applicable.
- Assist with the appointment and recruitment of Midday Supervisors.
- Ensure that there is suitable play equipment in use on the playground and in the classrooms during wet lunchtimes.
- Monitor the behaviour of pupils, encouraging positive behaviour and reporting any incidents to relevant staff member.
- Supervise and control entrance and exit by pupils during the lunch break to school premises and ensure calm orderly conduct in accordance with the school’s expectations.
