**Job details**:

- The School of Medicine and Dentistry is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Teachers (An Honorary Consultant contract will be sought for eligible individuals) to join its clinical academic team. Working predominantly with undergraduate students, you will take responsibility for leading on the development and delivery of the work-based learning curriculum for the BDS-I (BDS International Route) including leadership, academic teaching and the provision of chairside clinical supervision and staff training. In addition, you will take specific responsibility for ensuring continuity and consistency of primary care teaching and secondary care placements. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in postgraduate teaching.

The School is rooted firmly within Primary Care and we operate an integrated BDS / Dental Hygiene Therapy programme, along with a range of clinical and non-clinical programmes at all levels across the dental team. Our undergraduate BDS dental students and Dental Hygiene & Therapy (DT) students are located in one of four regional Dental Education Centres from the second year of their training.

In 2022, The School of Dentistry established a new BDS-I (International) route for students who first graduated outside the United Kingdom. The programme is currently awaiting inspection and approval by the UK General Dental Council before the small first cohort of students will be permitted to graduate. The School is anxious to expand this programme and the recruitment of a senior clinical academic colleague to develop the work-based learning aspects of the programme is an essential requirement. The students are currently gaining their primary care clinical experience in practices owned by MyDentist: the practices are in Norfolk and Essex and in the future likely also to be in Cornwall. Regular visits to these locations are integral to the post, consequently the post will entail significant travelling. Periodic attendance at the UCLan main campus in Preston will be necessary although it is expected that the post holder will be able discharge some of their responsibilities working from home.

We require the post holder to have comprehensive experience of primary care dentistry in a GDP, Clinic or University, along with experience of teaching within a dental setting. Full current registration with the GDC is essential, as is a formal teaching qualification or willingness to undertake one within 2 years of appointment. Holding a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and a post graduate qualification are desirable whilst to be eligible for an Honorary NHS Consultant contract to be sought, the post holder must be on a GDC Specialist List.

A team player, you will have the ability to explain and demonstrate practical skills, be IT literate in the use of standard Microsoft packages and will also demonstrate excellent communication skills. We require a commitment both to inter-professional education and to personal and professional development.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based at Preston but is peripatetic in nature and you should be willing and able to travel on University business as an integral part of this role.

UCLan is committed to providing a safe environment to study, work and visit, protecting children, young people and adults at risk from harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy and safer recruitment procedure outlines our approach, alongside other internal policies, procedures and guidance which can be found on our website at Safeguarding - UCLan
