**Required for September 2023.**

**Maternity Cover**

**30 Hours per week over 5 days. Term-time only.**

**Job Purpose**:

- To work with the Senior Librarian to ensure that an effective resource and information service is provided in both libraries.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- To assist in the day to day management routines of both libraries;
- To assist the Senior Librarian in the organisation of library resources to permit their retrieval and use by students and staff;
- To assist with the development of the library web page;
- To process and maintain library resources;
- To contribute to library development and to assist in monitoring the effectiveness of the school library policy;
- To provide guidance and assistance to pupils, as individuals or in groups, on the effective use of particular resources, the choice of books for wider reading and the availability of information sources outside school;
- To ensure a high standard of display and promotional material to enhance the physical environment in order to achieve optimum library use both for purposeful study and leisure;
- To maintain a supportive working environment and other appropriate activities and to ensure that the physical environment of the library is of a standard which encourages respect for the fabric and the needs of other users;
- To ensure personal professional development and maintain a high level of current awareness regarding children’s literature and developments in education and librarianship;
- To share expertise and skills with others;
- To participate in training and other learning activities as required;
- To work collaboratively with colleagues to protect and safeguard students;
- To undertake such other duties connected with the post as may reasonably be requested;
- Have an awareness of the schools Health & Safety Policy and ensure compliance with its requirements for your area.

**Person Specification**

**Knowledge and Qualifications**
- Good standard of education with at least GCSE Grade C, including English with a high standard of numeracy and literacy.
- Good IT skills
- Relevant professional qualification would be desirable
- Knowledge of a library computer system and of library duties within a school would be desirable
- Knowledge of digital resources would be desirable

**Experience**
- Experience of working in a similar setting
- Relevant experience of providing advice, support and information to a diverse range of people, both internal and external.
- Experience of working in a library would be desirable
- Experience of working in a school environment would be desirable

**Skills**
- Decision making skills and the ability to solve problems, prioritise workload and work on own initiative.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate with staff and students.
- Behaviour management skills.
- Learning support skills to assist library users.
- Work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
- Experience of working with young people would be desirable

**Job Types**: Part-time, Temporary contract
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: £15,168.00 per year
