Behaviour Support Lead

Our work in the UK embraces many specialist services including children’s specialist education, children’s residential services, adult mental health, acquired brain injury and fostering services.
**The Forum School**
The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52-week residential and specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviour and complex needs. The children and young people that attend our school range between 7 and 19 years of age.
**Main Purpose of the Job**
We are looking for a person who is passionate about leading teams to develop a deeper understanding of ASD, the effects of childhood trauma, attachment and loss. We are progressing well with our journey of trauma informed practice and the Behaviour Support Lead will work alongside our teams: therapy, education and residential care to deliver consistently excellent approaches and responses.
An important element of the role is to review information to identify trends early then coordinate the focus of our multidisciplinary teams to formulate the best response and lead on establishing consistent approaches across our teams.
The Behaviour Support Lead will be a visible presence across our fantastic campus and will become a familiar presence in education and our homes. Supporting our teams through observing practice and modelling ‘how to’ they’ll provide real-time mentoring and can identify emerging training needs. They’ll be a key influence in supporting us on our journey to outstanding in every area we operate.
We are a learning environment and we require a team who can grow with us. We are a therapeutic provision and our therapeutic BSL will be an example to lead and facilitate this by working holistically.
The BSL works within our leadership team and will build strong relationships with our Therapy Lead, Head of Education, Care Services Manager and Principal. They will support us to continue to further develop our excellent culture through stimulating conversation and ambitious action.
The BSL will enable our team to recognise the impact of traumatic experiences for a child and how this can be a barrier to forming secure attachments that enable young people to engage with their education and active lives.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Coordination of work with Clinical Psychology and extended MDT team to implement interventions. Although the post is not a clinical position, it is a vital link between clinicians and our clinical informed approach
- Writing, reviewing and updating Risk Assessments and Behaviour Support Plans
- Support for young people’s positive behaviour
- Observation of team and young people in school, home and community to support and model positive behaviour support
- Planning and support in cases where young people experience crisis
- Development and delivery of training to meet training needs analysis regarding supportive interventions and positive behaviour support
- Staff debrief following any incidents and learnings are recorded and embedded
- Review of incidents through reporting that is completed, processing the reports and provide monthly analysis and annual review
- Convene and chair the High Priority Group each week
**Experience Required**
- Experience of a therapeutic education or residential environment
- Experience working within a multi-agency approach
- Experience working wit children who may have social care involvement (CiN plans, CP Plans, CLA etc.)
- Experience delivering training and/or leadership and small team management
- Strong understanding of attachment and loss.
- Evidence of therapeutic training/qualifications
- Psychological/counselling courses attended is desirable.
- Active, energetic, creative, outgoing and empathetic character.
- Full driving licence.
- Experience of group work with young people
- Experience of assessment in intervention
- Understanding responsibilities in protecting their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of their colleagues and others.
- Requirements for an Enhanced DBS and reference checking will be undertaken in line with government regulations and safer recruitment best practice.
