Job Title KITCHEN ASSISTANT

Responsible To GENERAL MANAGER

Scope and General Purpose of Job TO RECEIVE DELIVERIES, CLEAN AS DIRECTED AND PREPARE THE FOOD AND ASSIST ON MAIN LINE WHEN NEEDED

The following is not an exhaustive list of duties and/or responsibilities.

**WORKING WITH OTHERS**
- To ensure that you check your rota in order to know the shifts you are working, any shift can be discussed only with your manager at any time.
- To ensure that all you arrive on the time indicated on the rota (this is the time you have to be changed and ready to work). Your punctuality will be considered regarding the allocation of the shifts.
- To ensure that if you are late or ill you tell your direct line manager in order to cover your shift, at least 2 hourS before the beginning of your shift. You have to contact your manager by calling them yourself; a text message is not acceptable.
- Being polite and respectful to others is part of Kitchen Garden Café’s beliefs..
- To behave in a polite, honest and friendly way to other members of the team.
- Always deal with customers in a polite, pleasant and professional manner.
- To project a positive attitude at all times.
- The use of mobile phone is limited to the break time; use of mobile phones at any other time is strictly prohibited. Exceptions are for calls made or received on behalf of the Kitchen Garden Cafe. If you are expecting and important personal call or text message, you need to let the duty manager know.
- The use of the Kitchen Garden landline is forbidden unless authorised by the Duty Manager or the General Manager.

**MAIN DUTIES**
- To abide by the Company rules at all times.
- You have a general obligation to follow all reasonable orders from the Head Chef, Duty Manager or the Company General Manager. Non-co-operation will be treated as Gross Misconduct. If you are in doubt about the authority of someone, other than your Head Chef or Duty Manager, you have the right to check before obeying the instruction with the Head Chef or the Company General Manager.

**KITCHEN SERVICE**
- Receive deliveries from suppliers with necessary monitoring of quality and food safety by checking the food temperature and if the use by date is at least 5 days
- Rapid dispersal of deliveries to appropriate storage unit (e.g. fridge, freezer, dry store)
- Transfer of waste to the correct external waste bins.
- To clean the dishes and other kitchen equipment and put them away.
- To operating the dishwashing machine as instructed.
- General and deep cleaning of walls, floors and food preparation services.
- Periodic cleaning of cooking equipment and similar.
- Assist the chef(s) in basic food preparation of vegetables and salad items.
- Work in an efficient manner.
- To ensure that methods of preparation comply with the standards required by your management.
- To help with food service if required.
- To ensure the security of stores and other areas of potential loss by ensuring the stock rotation and the use by date checking
- To keep the kitchen and adjoining areas clean and tidy at all times (changing room, staff toilets).
- To undertake the required cleaning duties of the kitchen area and leave the premises when the job is done unless agreed with your line manager.
- To leave the kitchen clean after the service as per the cleaning schedule, signing the cleaning list and checking that all the appliances are switched off and the windows and doors are shut before leaving.
- To complete any relevant documentation at the end of each shift (e.g. Time Sheet, Cleaning List).

**HYGIENE, HEALTH AND SAFETY DUTIES**
- To ensure that you arrive at work wearing your uniform.
- To wear and maintain the correct uniform required at all times, and ensure that it is clean (clean trousers, clean jacket, clean hat and clean apron)
- You will ensure a high standard of personal cleanliness at all times; and work in a hygienic way.
- To familiarise yourself with the company health and safety policies and ensure that all duties are carried out in a safe manner
- Report any health and safety concerns and/or accidents to your manager.
- To comply with Company and statutory regulations concerning food safety and health & safety.
- To respect the elementary rules of food safety:

- avoid cross contamination all the times
- make sure the food in the fridge or freezer is covered at all the times
- make sure that the food is labelled at all the times
- make sure that the food is used within the used by date

**OCCASIONAL DUTIES**
- To work with all kinds of food e.g. meats, poultry, fish.
- To report to management immediately any accidents, fires, thefts, losses, damage, unit food or other irregularities to the Head Chef or the Company General Manager.
- To receive and implement any training that may be necessary.

To attend staff meetings as necessary outside the normal working hours in order to keep up with the Company's Policies and requirements.
