Night Support Assistant
£22,941 to £26,769 based on 42hrs week.
Reports to: Senior Advocate.
Shift Pattern: 12hr shifts, 3/4 fixed shifts per week including every other weekend. Part-time working/job share may be considered based around these shift patterns.
Main Purpose of Role:
To enable a seamless 24-hour access to advice and guidance, working closely across specialist night teams promoting a safe and supportive experience in EOS provision.
Main Duties:

- Induct new residents into the service, explaining the facilities and support on offer including health & Safety information and procedures
- Complete Housing Benefit forms for all new residents
- Ensure that any new accommodation is ready for use
- Ensure that communal areas and shared facilities are regularly patrolled and inspected throughout the night and kept in a clean and orderly state
- Provide basic advice and guidance around welfare benefits and immigration queries and ensure any referrals are followed up the next day
- Check and report on accommodation as required, undertaking room/pod checks
- Ensure everyone in EOS accommodation has left the EOS area before 8:30am
- Use the laundry facilities to ensure that bedding is both available and clean
- Assist in the organised storage of client belongings as required and in line with Huggard procedures
- Recognise signs at an early stage and seek to support residents in overcoming issues that could escalate and potentially undermine their ability to maintain accommodation
- Provide one to one support to residents wishing to discuss issues
- Serve food and drinks, ensuring that hygiene standards are observed
- Work with the on duty Safe-Guards to maintain a safe and welcoming environment that is based on maximising inclusion/engagement and minimising exclusion from services
- Work collectively and productively with team members to ensure that all shift duties are undertaken effectively
- Providing an immediate appropriate response to any incidences in line with procedures
- Review and reflect on incidences to improve future working practices
- Ensure that the database is comprehensively completed for each resident and maintain the logbook
- Provide relevant handover notes for the Night Access Officer to collate
- Monitor and report maintenance and service issues and to report any issues/concerns about residents, visitors, other staff or facilities that potentially undermine safe operation
- Complete all required checklists
- At the end of each shift, ensure that all appropriate areas are mopped, clean and tidy and all rubbish is removed and put in the correct bins
- Ability to work collaboratively across Huggard teams and services
- Be aware of local activities, opportunities, and services in order to signpost effectively
- Work creatively, and in partnership with others, to find ways of reaching and engaging with BAME and other marginalised groups and individuals
- Continuously improving your knowledge and understanding of the barriers to BAME groups, older age groups, people with language barriers, neurodiverse considerations and individuals who have experienced complex and compound trauma
- To attend supervision, review and team meetings and undertake appropriate training as required
- To use word-processing software for the production of correspondence in accordance with relevant policies on confidentiality and data protection
- To undertake any other relevant duties as directed by line manager
Person Specification
- A working knowledge of benefit and housing benefit forms and processes
- An ability to follow procedures and good working practices
- Ability to keep clear and concise records and notes
- Experience of supporting people with complex needs
- Resilient and ability to manage conflict and difficult conversations
- Active listening skills and a non-judgemental approach
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to repair and build relationships through a supportive, cohesive and collective restorative response
- An understanding and value of reflective practice, PIEs, ACEs, trauma-informed care and a strengths-based approach would benefit this role
- Good understanding of complex substance use and harm reduction approaches
- Ability to use a range of Microsoft Office software
