Associate Practitioner

The Royal Cornwall hospital provides Pathology services for Cornwall & is currently looking for a motivated Band 4 Associate Practitioner to become part of the Blood Sciences team. The Blood Sciences department is soon to enter an exciting phase with a new build pathology department, future proofing pathology for the next 40 years with a purpose built facility featuring state of the art diagnostic equipment.
Our laboratory is ISO 15189:2012 accredited and is equipped with GLP tracked Abbott Alinity Chemistry and Immunoassay analysers, Alinity H analysers, ACL TOP coagulation analsyers, Sebia Tera 3 capillary electrophoresis, Advanced Instruments Osmo1, and Thermo Scientific Dionex UltiMate HPLC systems.
You will be expected to participate in a 24/7 rota after suitable training.
The department supports professional career progression and works closely with educational establishments to provide placement and training opportunities.

To undertake diagnostic tests on blood and other body
To support the Biomedical Scientists (BMS) in operation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of complex and specialist laboratory equipment.
To support the Senior Biomedical Scientist in planning and organising maintenance activities for complex and specialist laboratory equipment.
To monitor and maintain the stock of reagents and
Perform quality assurance as appropriate and report any out of consensus results to registered BMS staff.
To support the quality management system under the guidance of the quality
As this is a non-HPC registered position the post holder will not authorise results
Supervise, organise, and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area.
