Spring Hill High School is seeking to appoint an ICT Subject Leader
We are a growing Independent Special Needs School seeking new talent to take us into the next stage of our development. We are looking for innovative and flexible teachers who think creatively to inspire the vulnerable children we teach. This post would be suitable for a Qualified Primary or Secondary Teacher, seeking to develop their leadership experience.
Visits to school are most welcome.

Salary between M1-M6 depending on level of experience.

**Head of Department Core Purpose**

**Operational/Strategic Planning**
- To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole department and to monitor and support student progress.
- To be accountable for student progress and development within the Faculty.
- To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
- To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the School and the curricular policies determined by the Directors and Headteacher.
- To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the department.
- To effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the Faculty to support the designated curriculum portfolio.
- To support the STEM initiative in the school.

**Main Core Duties**
- To lead the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching strategies in the department.
- This will include exploring the use of curriculum opportunities to engage and raise aspirations of all students.
- The day-to-day management, control and operation of course provision within the department, including effective training and deployment of staff and physical resources.
- To actively monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that appropriate intervention strategies are being deployed and the impact monitored.
- Fully participate in raising achievement and progress meetings alongside senior and middle leaders.
- To implement school policies, for example Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety etc. To work with colleagues and formulate aims, objectives and

strategic plans for the department, which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the School.
- To lead and manage the business planning function of the department and to ensure that the planning activities of the department reflect the needs of the students within the department and the aims and objectives of the School.
- To ensure that Health and Safety policies and practices, including risk assessments, throughout the Faculty are in line with national requirements and are updated where necessary, therefore, liaising with the School’s Health and Safety Officer.

**Curriculum Provision**:

- To liaise with the Leadership Team to ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective curriculum programme that complements the School Improvement Plan/School Evaluation.
- To be accountable for the development and delivery of the

**Staff Development**:

- To work with the Leadership Team to ensure that staff development needs are identified and appropriate programmes are designed to meet such needs.
- To monitor the impact of learning and teaching within Science and share judgements with teachers as necessary.

**Recruitment/Deployment of staff**:

- To be responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of the department’s technicians/support staff.
- To act as reviewer for a group of staff within the department.
- To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, liaising with the deputies to secure appropriate cover within the department.
- To participate in the interview process for teaching posts when required and to ensure effective induction of new staff in line with School procedures.
- To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relations.
- To participate in the School’s NQT and SCITT programmes.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the department and act as a positive role model.
