**Part Time Biological Safety Consultant / General Safety Consultant**

**Location**: Homed Based with travel required (Most of the work is in London, Southeast & Midlands)

**Salary**:Negotiable, dependent on qualifications and experience

Our client has been established for over 25 years as the premier provider of health and safety services to the health care sector and commercial organisations.

The company are looking for a Part Time Biological Safety Consultant (either on an employed or freelance basis) with experience of working in healthcare environments eg hospitals, medical schools, research laboratories, veterinary and biotech facilities.

**The applicant must be able to provide the following general and specific safety services**:

- Provide advice, information and training to Clients in all areas of biological safety (including work at Containment Levels 1-3 and working with GMOs)
- Provision of professional and technical advice to Clients concerning their responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work etc Act, associated Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance.
- Development and delivery of bespoke Biosafety courses and health and safety courses.
- Interpretation of and provision of advice on compliance with new and updated legislation.
- Development of Client Policies and procedures and their revision where necessary.
- Inspection/Audit of Client workplaces and safety arrangements to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and provision of written reports with action plans.
- Assist clients with hazard identification and risk assessments.
- Investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses.
- Monitoring accident reports and other performance indicators.
- Attending/providing reports to Client Safety Committees and other safety meetings as necessary.
- Liaising with the Health & Safety Executive and other enforcing authorities if required.

**Qualifications and Experience**

**Essential**:

- CMIOSH
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- At least 3 years relevant experience in Biological Safety and General Safety
- Qualification to at least degree level standard in a biological science
- Experience in working in the Health Care/Medical Research Sector

**Required Skills**:

- A very clear understanding of the regulations associated with biosafety work including the practical implications of compliance and safe working practices.
- Ability to understand submitted proposals for work with biological material. and be able to advise on the risks
- Be able to produce clear succinct reports for Client safety committees.
- Be able to assist in carrying out biological risk assessments.
- Be able to design and deliver biosafety (and other) training courses to clients.

**Additional Information**

Most of the work is in London, Southeast & Midlands. The position will require the Consultant to liaise closely with the Director of Safety Services (DSS). The Consultant will be expected to travel to clients directly from home. Report writing and clientcommunications etc. will be as directed by the DSS.

DBS clearance will be required.
