Northampton, United Kingdom West Northamptonshire Council Full time

About the role
West Northamptonshire Council is seeking to appoint two Commissioning Officers - one CYP and one Sexual Health Commissioning Officer - to the Public Health team. You will play a key part in improving the health of residents of West Northamptonshire, through prevention and health improvement commissioning approaches across the health and social care economy.

This is a very exciting time to be joining the Public Health West Northamptonshire commissioning team as we are developing new strategies to assess and meet the needs of West Northamptonshire residents. We are at a point in the commissioning cycle when we need to ask ourselves important questions about future priorities and the strategic choices. At the same time as staying focussed on continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of the services we currently have.

Interviews week commencing December 11th 2023

What will you be doing?
As a Commissioning Officer you will play a key role in developing partnerships across West Northamptonshire Council and health system partners to improve the public health outcomes and reducing health inequalities.

One role will focus on working towards the Council’s aim to ensure the Best Start in Life for West Northamptonshire’s babies, children, young people and families by supporting the commissioning of services for 0-19 year olds, families and potentially education.

The other role will focus on the commissioning of services relating to health protection, primarily the Integrated Sexual Health Service, with the aim of supporting all adults and young people to access quality, safe and equitable services that improve health for all communities and promote positive sexual behaviour.

Your role will include a hands on approach to commissioning and involvement in the whole of the commissioning cycle, from user engagement, to service design, procurement, implementation and service monitoring. Your tasks will include collating and analysing data and intelligence, writing reports, completing market research, conducting consultation and engagement events, reviewing legislation and supporting the Commissioning Manager with commissioning activities, contract performance and quality audits. In addition, there will be scope to manage discrete commissioning projects, conduct commissioning reviews and develop commissioner-provider relationships with our partner organisations.

You will report to the Public Health Commissioning Manager (0-19, Sexual Health and Oral Health) and may also support other commissioning managers within the team. You will be supported by public health principals, consultants and support officers.
