We are hiring a bank Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing home Burleigh Hill House, located in Carrickfergus.

This role will work day shifts, 8am - 8pm.

**Your Role**

To provide various aspects of care to elderly residents as detailed below. Training will be provided.

**Main Tasks**:
You are required to:

- Encourage self-help and independence, always upholding the right of each resident to privacy, dignity and choice.
- Carry out a range of duties within the day-to-day programme of care planned for residents.
- Assist residents to get up in the morning, wash, dress, bath/shower and general personal hygiene.
- Assist male and female residents to use the toilet and to meet their needs in relation to incontinence management.
- Assist male and female residents with oral hygiene, (cleaning of teeth & dentures) hand and nail care, and shaving of male residents.
- Care for the residents’ spectacles, and hearing aids etc., and report any faults or damage.
- Observe for any changes to a resident's well being and report to Nurse in charge of that resident.
- Move and handle residents as per their individually assessed needs.
- Assist residents to bed, when required.
- Report all accidents, incidents or near misses to the Nurse in charge or the Manager.
- At times accompany residents to appointments outside the Home.
- Carry out any other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Home Manager.
- Assist residents with mealtimes and to serve meals as is necessary on a tray to residents in their room and assist dependent residents to eat and drink when necessary.
- Observe and report on the dietary and fluid intake of residents.

**RESIDENTS’ PERSONAL BELONGINGS**
- Ensure that residents’ personal belongings are respected and cared for as you would your own property.
- Return clean clothing ensuring it is hung up or folded and stored neatly in wardrobes and drawers. Wardrobes and drawers must be kept neat and tidy.
- Inform named care assistants if a resident requires toiletries, new clothing, repairs, etc.
- Sluice or rinse any clothing and/or bed linen etc., which is soiled with faeces, vomit, blood, or foodstuff.
- Make residents’ beds and to ensure that beds are clean and properly made.

**ACTIVITIES**
- All Care Assistants are required to assist, participate and at times instigate, activities within the Home.

**MEETINGS**
- The Care Assistant will attend and participate in staff meetings.
- The Care Assistant will attend all required training within the Home as directed.

**HEALTH & SAFETY**
- Should be familiar with the Homes’ health and safety policies.
- Will comply with the Fire Safety Policy
- Will comply with Moving and Handling guidance and resident assessments.
- Will report all defective equipment to the nurse in charge or the Home Manager.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Either a minimum of 2 years general work experience or studying for or attained a care-related qualification.

Either:

- Personal care experience or,
- Kitchen or laundry experience in work or a voluntary setting or,
- Proven interest in care of the elderly
- Be registered with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC)

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Experience working within a Nursing Home or similar environment.

Burleigh Hill House joined MD Healthcare in 2016. Situated in historic Carrickfergus, the purpose-built home has been established for over 20 years and offers both Nursing and Residential care. There are beautiful dayrooms, dining rooms and quiet areas around the home for residents along with a beautiful summer house in the garden.
