The children’s unit comprises of two main areas..the Children’s Unit where there are 50 beds in total with 4 high dependency beds and children’s observation and assessment unit (COAU) which has 11 cubicles and 11 chairs, this is where children are seen and assessed 24 hours a day and will then be admitted to the ward or discharged home.

Assist in the reception of children and families to the unit.

Clerical duties associated with admission, transfer and discharge of children using various IT Systems.

Communicate with children, family’s visitors and colleagues face to face by telephone or in writing.

Enter patient information into Patient Administration System ( PAS ) obtaining relevant electronic wristband.

**Ensure case notes are efficiently maintained including**:
Filing episodic clinical and nursing notes

Filing of reports

Sending for coding

Making follow up appointments, requesting investigations, reports from various departments and outpatient diagnostics as requested.

Collect and distribute mail for staff and patients.

Communicate/consult with other departments internal and external to the trust e.g nursing staff, consultants, medical doctors, patient services, matrons, health visitors, social workers, ambulance service in furtherance of the service provided to children and their families.

DUTIES
- Assist in the reception of patients and relatives to the units.
- Clerical duties associated with the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Enter patient information on a computerised Patient Administration System (PAS) and obtain relevant electronic wristband.
- Communicate with patients, visitors and colleagues by telephone, face-to-face or in writing, in furtherance of the effective running of the unit.
- Ensure case notes are efficiently maintained, including:

- i) Filing episodic clinical and nursing notes
- ii) Filing investigation reports
- iii) Then send for coding
- Communicate/consult with other departments, internal and external to the Trust e.g. Patient Services, Community Matrons, Social Workers, Health Visitors and Ambulance Service in furtherance of the service provided to patients.
- Make follow-up appointments for patients when necessary, request outpatient diagnostics as requested.
- Collect and distribute mail for patients and staff.
- General office duties ie filing, photocopying.
- Organising and servicing meetings (producing agendas and minute taling)
- Maintaining diaries and arranging appointments
- Managing databases
