Promoting & Participating in the Provision of Physical and Emotional Care
- To participate in the admission and discharge of residents.
- To participate in the assessment of the needs of Service Users in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals.
- To contribute to the development of individual care and placement plans for residents in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals.
- To observe, assess and monitor Service User's health, development and emotional well-being and interpret verbal and non-verbal signs, initiating appropriate action as necessary.
- With colleagues, provide a warm accepting environment within which the emotional, social and educational, cultural and spiritual needs of individual residents can be met.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the local community and its cultural influences, resources and facilities.
- To undertake key-worker tasks and responsibilities as required.

Ensure a Safe and Comfortable Environment
- To actively promote and participate in the provision of high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety for all Service Users.
- To ensure reasonable care for own health and safety and that of others is taken.
- To initiate and update risk assessments as appropriate.
- Report and respond to any adult / child protection concerns in line with Departmental Procedures.
- Use safe methods to assist individuals with moving and handling.
- Manage the behaviour of individual Service Users and groups of Service Users appropriately and within guidelines laid down by the department.
- Residential workers are to attend departmental training within six months of appointment and remain accredited once registered.
- To help Service Users manage their own behaviour through appropriate role modelling.
- Support learning to live together and respect for individuals, including resolution of conflicts between Service Users.
- To organise, encourage and share in recreational and leisure activities that meet the needs and wishes of the Service Users and adhere to county policy and guidelines.
- To support effective team working.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the physical, social, emotional and developmental needs and issues of the client group and have experience of working with them.
- Understand how to encourage and support service users to achieve independence and understand behaviour and attitudes that develop dependence.
- Have an understanding of the importance of high standards within residential care.
- Have the necessary skills and experience to engage with the client group and communicate effectively with people who may have special communication needs.
- Demonstrate an ability to build and sustain professional relationships with service users, families, carers, other professionals, managers and colleagues.
- Able to work as part of a team and understand the concept of team work and the need for contribution and flexibility.
- Understand how personal actions and attitudes impact on others.
- Ability to recognise signs of stress in yourself and others and respond appropriately.
- Ability to use initiative to solve day-to-day problems as they arise but within given parameters.
- Able to contribute ideas to support the smooth and effective running of the unit.
- Able to assess risks, identify control measures and take necessary steps to ensure a safe environment for service users and colleagues.
- Able to express self clearly and keep accurate records of activities and expenditure
