**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Post: Lead Housekeeper**

**Responsible to: Estates Manager**

**1. Purpose**:
At Windlesham House School the role of Housekeeper is crucial to the efficient and professional provision of high standards of cleanliness and to provide an excellent standard of customer service creating a warm friendly environment that people wish to return to.

**2. Responsible to**:
The Lead Housekeeper reports to the Estates Manager.

**3. Duties ** a. Supervisory

1. Manage the in-house Housekeeping Team

2. Maintain the Housekeeping rota

3. Ensure that adequate supplies of cleaning materials and equipment are available

4. Ensure that equipment is safe to use and in good working order

5. Ensure good working practices of staff under your supervision especially where chemicals and hazardous substances are in use (COSSH)

6. Undertake in-house training of new and current staff in safe cleaning practices

7. Motivate and encourage staff to work efficiently and achieve a high standard of work

8. Regular visits to all buildings across the site to audit and check that cleaning duties have been carried out in accordance with agreed standards

9. Reporting absence, sickness and any other staff issues using appropriate forms to the Bursary

10. When necessary, during periods of understaffing, provide cover

11. Be prepared to receive and undertake further training as required by the school

12. Any other tasks, as directed by the Estates Manager or Senior Leadership Team, commensurate with the role b. Cleaning

1. Cleaning floors, furniture, walls and fittings by use of manual and electrically powered tools and equipment

2. Dusting, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming

3. Emptying all litter containers and delivery of rubbish to the main refuse area

4. Maintaining good relationships with all staff, pupils and visitors

5. Maintaining safe and hygienic working practices with due regard for self and others

**4. Health & Safety and Fire Prevention Processes**:
1. Carry out all tasks and duties in accordance with Health & Safety requirements and best practice

2. Ensure ongoing compliance with emerging fire regulations

3. To ensure that at the completion of shift all electrical appliances are switched off and unplugged and any combustible material is secured

4. To observe health & safety procedures at all times and to report any potential hazards, faults or problems to the Estates Bursar

5. To attend and complete compulsory training as required

6. To ensure any cleaning equipment when used is properly cleaned and stored

**5. Personal Qualifications**

1. To attend work looking smart, wearing the uniform and any protective clothing

2. Provide a friendly, helpful service at all times with high standards of customer care

3. Maintain polite and good communication with your colleagues at all times

4. Be flexible, committed and punctual

5. Strong customer care focus with an awareness of your impact on the customer experience

6. Enhanced DBS clearance to work in a school environment

7. Self-motivation - meets objectives on own intuitive

8. Teamwork - flexible, cooperative, helpful, self-aware, collaborates well, ability to work alone or as part of a team

9. Physically able to undertake all the physical requirements of the post and use equipment according to the Health & Safety guidelines

**6. Hours**

Monday to Friday 09:00 to 16:00 for approximately 44 weeks per year. You may be required to work some occasional evening and weekend hours.
