Senior Mechanical Engineer

**About the Role**
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll hold a core role within our Engineering Team.
The Engineering team provides technical expertise and guidance to operational, project delivery and hydrogen asset development teams to drive regulatory compliance and ensure our assets are fit for purpose.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be supporting the development of technical specifications, troubleshooting asset quality and technical issues and undertaking the technical qualification of suppliers for valves, regulators, overpressure protectivedevices and other static equipment. You will be leading the qualification of such items for natural gas and hydrogen transportation infrastructure development, working closely with the rest of the engineering team, project, quality and procurement and supplychain teams.
**Key accountabilities will include**:
- Developing company technical specifications for valves, actuators, regulators, overpressure protection devices and other static mechanical equipment
- Investigating quality issues with equipment, working with operations teams and suppliers to resolve
- Planning and undertaking technical qualification of key suppliers Inspection and Test Plans, via desktop review of documentation and supplier manufacturing visits driving better quality of equipment
- Proactively participate in the continuous improvement of supplier quality management processes
- Within a specialist area, providing a comprehensive knowledge and support for meeting statutory and regulatory obligations
- Participating in incident investigations as required. Ensuring that the learning from incident reviews and investigations are communicated with action plans delivered
- Supporting research and technology development related to engineering assets, driving benefits into the business
- Providing technical expertise to support innovation, hydrogen projects and field trials.
- Identifying the scope for continuous improvement of safety and business performance in areas of engineering practice
- Developing, recommending and implementing improvements to engineering processes to improve efficiency or the quality of the service provided to stakeholders
- Working closely with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure framework suppliers are delivering to expected quality
- Identifying changes to engineering standards that enhance value whilst upholding integrity. Managing delivery of changes through governance process
- Identifying and promoting best practice with operational and delivery teams, driving standardisation across the company
- Supporting stakeholders with delivery of solutions for assets requiring remediation following inspection, maintenance and surveillance activities
- Leading the scope development, review and technical acceptance of work undertaken by external engineering consultancies
- Leading in role of informed buyer (on behalf of company) for engineering equipment and service providers related to discipline
- Reviewing deviations and technical queries to standards, within area of expertise
- Providing engineering expertise to formal process safety assessments (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, etc)
**About You**
You’ll possess the majority of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Site, workshop or manufacturing experience in either engineering support and/or technical quality role related to the design, manufacturing or operation of static mechanical equipment
- Have previously developed / updated technical specifications
- Undertaken the technical qualification of static mechanical equipment
