The WMCA is seeking to appoint a Strategic Lead for Culture & Creative Industries. This brand-new, high-profile role offers the chance to work closely with partners across the creative and cultural sectors in the region develop and implement a strategy that will shape the future of our approach to driving up number and scale of opportunities for our artists and creative entrepreneurs.

This is a challenging but incredibly rewarding chance to play a pivotal role in the evolution of the West Midlands as it becomes a destination of choice for ambitious and inventive creatives and business leaders to innovate, develop and thrive. You'll work collaboratively with a supportive team, building relationships with key stakeholders across local authorities, government bodies, cultural institutions, and artists as you lead delivery and strategic teams, guaranteeing high quality outputs and influencing local, regional and national policy.

**What will you be doing?**
- Lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive cultural and creative strategy for the region.
- Act as an ambassador for the West Midlands' cultural scene, encouraging collaboration and partnership working.
- Advocate for an ambitious and future facing approach to the regional narrative around creative opportunity and talent development
- Forge deeper connections between creative areas of crossover between culture, creative industries, digital practice and innovation
- Leverage research and evidence to identify and capitalise on regional opportunities.
- Oversee the delivery of grant programs like the Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund (Culture Pillar).
- Develop future programmes and secure funding that supports the growth of the cultural and creative industries and elevates the region's profile.
- Provide expert advice and policy input on cultural, heritage and creative industries matters.
- Champion the importance of culture and creativity within the WMCA and across partner organisations.
- Support the development and implementation of the WMCA’s Heritage Framework.
- Drive effective communication strategies to keep stakeholders informed.

**About You.**
- Proven experience in developing and implementing cultural and creative industries policy.
- Skilled researcher with a strong ability to analyse complex issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of writing reports and briefings.
- Experience facilitating high-profile meetings and events.
- Understanding of local government systems and operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of key cultural policy agendas and their significance.
- Strong political and commercial awareness, combined with discretion and confident decision-making.
- Ability to build strong relationships with politicians and stakeholders at all levels.
- Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Capacity to work confidentially and maintain political neutrality.

**Hybrid working, location and working pattern.**We believe hybrid working is the best way for our organisation to fulfil our commitment to a modern, agile workplace while continuing to provide a great service to our customers. Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
