**Alternative Provision Youth Worker**

**Position Overview**:
An Alternative Provision Youth Worker is responsible for providing support, guidance, and educational assistance to young people who require additional support due to behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties. Working in alternative provisions, such as special schools, PRUs (Pupil Referral Units), or youth centers, the Youth Worker plays a crucial role in helping young individuals overcome challenges, develop essential skills, and achieve their full potential.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Support Provision: Establish and maintain positive relationships with young people, promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
- Conduct initial assessments to identify individual needs, strengths, and areas requiring support.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including teachers, social workers, and counsellors, to develop personalised support plans for each young person.
- Implement strategies and interventions to address behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
- Provide one-to-one mentoring and coaching to help young individuals develop self-esteem, resilience, and coping mechanisms.
- Educational Instruction: devise and instruct lessons to help young people to engage within the curriculum, ensuring their educational needs are met. You may be assigned to cover a particular class.
- Manage student’s behaviour, facilitating learning, and adapting teaching techniques to suit individual needs.
- Help to deliver small group or individual sessions to address specific educational challenges, such as literacy, numeracy, or study skills.
- Monitor and track academic progress, providing regular feedback to young people, parents, and other professionals involved.
- Collaborate with other alternative provision youth workers to create inclusive and engaging learning activities that promote personal growth and skills development.
- Emotional and Social Support: Foster a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
- Facilitate group discussions, workshops, or activities to address social and emotional challenges, such as anger management, conflict resolution, or social skills development.
- Help young people develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthy coping strategies.
- Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interventions, progress, and any significant incidents.
- Prepare reports and assessments to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support plans.
- Attend meetings and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions to contribute insights and collaborate on holistic approaches.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Previous experience working with young people facing behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of alternative provision settings, special educational needs, and behaviour management techniques is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with young people, families, and professionals.
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage caseloads, documentation, and report writing.

**Non-essential**:

- Full UK driving license.

**Working Hours**:

- Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm (30 hours per week).

**Salary**:
The Apprentice will receive an apprenticeship wage of £5.28 per hour paid on the 28th of each calendar month, this will increase to minimum wage after the completion of 12 months.

**Holiday entitlement**:
The Apprentice will be entitled to 30 days of paid holiday per year + all bank holidays.
