**About the Role**

The STEP Creative Mentor plays a vital role in supporting and guiding young individuals to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

The role involves providing personalised mentorship, creative learning sessions, and emotional support within a safe and structured environment.

The Creative Mentor will collaborate with various stakeholders, including young people, families, and colleagues, to foster holistic development and encourage engagement in education and personal growth.

**Who we are looking for**
- Minimum Two year’s experience working with young people, preferably in an alternative school or education setting.
- Youth and Community Work qualification or equivalent
- Knowledge of range of support/agencies available to young people with additional learning needs.
- Understanding of young people who present SEND, with a commitment to inclusive learning and raising the attainment of young people.
- Proven effectiveness in employing a range of behaviour management strategies, especially for challenging young people.
- Understanding of the factors that lead to young people’s disaffection with education and effective strategies that can overcome them

**Roles & Responsibilities**
- Provide mentoring that focuses on addressing obstacles to learning, empowering young people to achieve their optimal potential.
- Cultivate a secure, calm, and organised creative learning atmosphere in diverse settings, such as schools, communities, and GHS.
- Plan and execute sessions tailored to young people at different levels, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Adapt working approaches to meet the unique requirements of all young individuals accessing the program.
- Offer both one-on-one and group support, informally and formally, to all participants of the STEP program.
- Engage, motivate, and support young individuals through a variety of methods, promoting active participation and personal development.
- Implement creative learning techniques and engagement strategies in both formal and informal settings.
- Deliver high-quality face-to-face interactions using various engagement methodologies.
- Provide effective Creative Alternative Education sessions that are comprehensive, efficient, and impactful.
- Deliver sessions that cater to individual needs, fostering interest and enthusiasm for learning.
- Meet with potential participants and referrers, conducting consultations to ensure proper program fit.
- Review and discuss the STEP program agreement with participants, maintaining accurate records to aid their progress.
- Conduct frequent learner reviews encompassing academic, social, and emotional goals, alongside addressing specific individual concerns and risks.
- Maintain prompt and precise record-keeping in accordance with program protocols, including session records, termly reports, risk assessments, and learner reviews.
- Ensure the upkeep of equipment and promptly report any faults.
- Champion diversity and inclusivity in program development and delivery.
- Provide appropriate information, support, and referrals related to participants' challenges.
- Manage time and resources efficiently to fulfill program requirements.
- Collaborate closely with fellow youth workers, partners, music and arts therapists, and link workers.
- Collect, monitor, and evaluate data, adhering to organisational standards.
- Commit to continuous professional development, staying adaptable to evolving job demands and participating in relevant training.
- Cultivate effective relationships both internally and externally, promoting a positive image of the service and the organisation.
- Prepare incident and safeguarding reports as necessary.
- Attend staff meetings and professional gatherings.
- Oversee and deliver Arts Award qualifications.
- Uphold service quality and maintain cleanliness and order within the working space.
- Create new files and archive old ones as needed.
- Adhere to GHSCC Policies, including health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding, and mandatory training.
- Fulfill other duties as required by the organisation, such as covering absences.
