Duties and responsibilities

Research and Development: You are responsible for researching and developing new food products and processes. This involves conducting experiments, analyzing data, and creating prototypes to improve existing products or create new ones.

Quality Control: You play a crucial role in ensuring that food products meet quality and safety standards. This involves implementing quality control procedures, conducting regular inspections and tests, and analyzing samples to monitor and maintain product quality.

Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance: You must stay updated with food safety regulations and ensure that all food products comply with these regulations. This includes monitoring and assessing potential risks, implementing safety protocols, and conducting audits to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies.

Product Formulation: You work on formulating recipes and determining the precise ingredients, additives, and processing techniques required to achieve desired product characteristics such as taste, texture, and shelf life.

Process Optimization: You optimize food production processes to maximize efficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs. This may involve evaluating and modifying equipment, streamlining production methods, and conducting trials to enhance productivity.

Sensory Evaluation: You conduct sensory evaluations to assess the taste, appearance, texture, and aroma of food products. This helps in identifying consumer preferences and making necessary improvements to enhance overall product acceptance.

Packaging Development: You collaborate with packaging specialists to design and develop appropriate packaging materials and techniques that maintain food quality, extend shelf life, and meet consumer demands.

Documentation and Reporting: You maintain detailed records of experiments, tests, and production processes. You also prepare reports, specifications, and documentation required for regulatory compliance, product labeling, and customer communication.

Collaboration and Communication: You work closely with cross-functional teams such as production, marketing, and research teams to ensure smooth product development and launch. Effective communication and collaboration are vital to coordinate efforts and achieve common goals.

Continuous Learning: As a food technologist, it's crucial to stay updated with advancements in food science, technology, and industry trends. Attending conferences, workshops, and professional development programs will help you enhance your knowledge and skills.

These duties may vary depending on the specific industry or company you work for. Food technologists can find employment in various sectors, including food manufacturing companies, research institutions, regulatory bodies, and consulting firms.

Reports: Generate performance reports (Monthly / Quarterly), continuous improvement, Training Competency checks, Technical Budget report, Production and Quality report (Weekly/Monthly).

**Role Requirements**

**Essential**
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Food Science or a related field.
- Experience in quality assurance within the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of quality control and regulations.
- Familiarity with BRC, IFS, and external audit standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in laboratory testing.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment.
- Problem-solving and investigative skills.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and Due Diligence.
- Proactive and adaptable approach.

**Salary**: £26,000.00-£28,500.00 per year
