PLEASE SEE JD/PS DOCUMENT FOR FULL JOB DETAILS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION You will have extensive experience of caring for patients, good clinical and management skills along with well-developed ability to communicate and support colleagues, patients and their families throughout their care, treatment and follow up.You will be able to motivate and engage others to ensure that the services we provide supports the Trusts values, as well as having a pioneering approach that is not afraid to challenge convention and traditional ways of working. 2.1 Management 2.1.1 To provide professional leadership and line management to senior Nursing/ Midwifery staff including ward and departmental Sisters & Charge Nurses/ Midwives, Clinical Nurse/ Midwifery Specialists and Advanced Practitioners. 2.1.2 To ensure that all direct reports have an annual appraisal with periodic reviews, and have a current personal development plan (PDP). 2.1.3 To develop and lead a recruitment and retention strategy for Nursing/ Midwifery and Support Workers in collaboration with the Divisional Human Resource Team, Divisional Nurse/ Head of Midwifery and ward/ departmental leads.

2.1.4 To participate in the recruitment of staff to meet the needs of the service, in liaison with ward and department leads, and the Divisional Human Resources team as appropriate. 2.1.5 To ensure that staff records are maintained by the Ward/ Department Manager and that the registration status of Nurses/ Midwives is verified, taking appropriate action when staff fail to maintain this. 2.1.6 To manage any issues of performance, capability and conduct relating to direct reports in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, in liaison with the Divisional Human Resources team. 2.1.7 To support and advise direct reports in the management of conflict, performance, capability and conduct issues within their teams and services in liaison with the Divisional Human Resources team and to undertake HR investigations and disciplinary hearings as and when required.

2.1.8 To act as a role model in promoting equality of opportunity amongst staff in line with the Trusts Equality and Diversity policy as well as conducting equality impact assessments on policy and/or service changes. 2.1.9 To enable consultation, engagement and ownership amongst Ward and Departmental Leads, ensuring that they are informed of organisational and divisional changes and that their views and concerns are represented. 2.1.10 To ensure that local policies, protocols and guidelines are developed and reviewed to reflect best practice, and that staff are informed of changes and work within these. 2.1.11 To participate in the business planning process for the Division/Directorate in liaison with the Divisional Management Team, participate in forming business cases and lead in related practice / service developments across the Trust.

2.1.12 To lead the review and re-design of patent pathways and services to ensure that these meet the changing needs of patients whilst optimising resources. 2.1.13 To establish the views of patients and families, promote patient and public involvement in the evaluation and improvement of services and be responsible for the review of patient satisfaction surveys to influence service development. 2.1.14 To enable multi professional and multi-agency collaborative working to support service and practice development which is centred on the needs of patients. 2.1.15 To oversee Ward and Departmental Leads in the effective management of pay and non-pay budgets for the Division/ Directorate ensuring the efficient and effective use of staffing resources and supplies to achieve a balanced budget.

2.1.16 To review and monitor roster arrangements to ensure most effective and efficient use of the staffing resource. Ensuring that rosters are approved in line with the Trusts roster policy. 2.1.17 To participate in the Trustwide Establishment Review process taking lead responsibility for ensuring the ward areas are compliant with the process and ensuring timely provision of information in line with the review expectations and National Quality Board Requirements. 2.1.18 To investigate complaints and prepare responses to any issues or concerns raised by patients and families in liaison with the M-PALS and Complaints Team as requested by the Divisional Nurse/ Head of Midwifery.

2.1.19 To ensure potential risks for staff, patients and visitors are identified and that incident reporting procedures are adhered to. To conduct investigations into adverse Incidents and ensure appropriate action is taken. 2.1.20 In agreement with the Divisional Nurse/Head of Midwifery, represent the division at appropriate Trustwide meetings and take the lead on specific streams of work as required. 2.1.21 To participate in Divisional, Trust and external meetings and represent the Divisional Nurse/ Head of Midwifery when required.
